[On a topic about a 4th grade Art Class project]
I am so angry at how much we, as a country, are being forced to show respect for so many other beliefs which constantly challenge the God of the Holy Bible. There is no longer tolerance for Christians because no one wants to tolerate Christ and His truth.

Its a fucking art project. I doubt your kid will remember it (let alone think about why he/she should care) in another 10 years.
Also: "being forced to show respect for so many other beliefs" is bad when you have to do it to others, but when others don't do it for you, why, you're being persecuted, aren't you? Funny how that works.
We tolerate you pretty well. After all, Christians in America don't have to worry about their church services being interrupted by misinformed police officers, or being fired for being a Christian, or being disowned as teens because of their beliefs, or automatically given the blame for weird "cult-related" crimes.
However, there are members of some minority religions who aren't yet extended the same courtesy. Thankfully, the numbers are shrinking.
"There is no longer tolerance for Christians because no one wants to tolerate Christ and His truth."
No, there is diminishing tolerance for xtians because you're such a pack of psychotic assholes.
Y'know, many other cultures and religions just kind of ignore others' symbols or actually embrace them by using them to teach their own message. I mean, the cross wasn't originally a Christian symbol.
Oh, and you want intolerance? Jack Chick has accused my community of human sacrifice every Halloween (Samhain to us). Nevermind that most of us are humanitarians and find the idea of willfully harming a fellow human being appalling...
Honestly Autumn, I disprespect all beliefs. Anyone who "believes" in anything without evidence is stupid. That goes for christians, muslims, hindus, pagans, and republicans. I am an equal opportunity mocker.
Now please, back to the kitchen and make me some fritters.
The reason you're so easily offended, is because christianity actually has very little bearing on real life.
Ask yourselves these questions:
1. What does the bible have to do with the price of fish?
Answer: Nothing
2. How many instruction manuals are in the bible?
Answer: None of practical value.
Meaning, you're mad, because religion generally really has nothing to do with reality and when people ask you to stop being deluded, you're insulted.
Actually, the description of the project sounds like it might not really be appropriate for public school...creating a ritual religious object? I mean, would it be okay if the kids were making rosaries? I don't think it would. Aren't there like a billion other things in the world these kids could be making rather than something tied to religion?
Christ and His Truth have as much validity as Mohammed and His Truth, and Buddha and His Truth, and Joseph Smith and His Truth, and L. Ron Hubbard and His Truth, and...
Strike that. At least Buddhism makes more sense than the others.
Personally, it's the second comment that cracked me up:
I would straight up tell the school they need to give my child another assignment for the grade as you are christians and will not take part in pagan practices.

No you're not being forced to do any such thing, you lying sack of shit. You can show as little respect for other religions as you want. Want to wipe your ass with the Qu'ran? Go ahead, there's no law against that. All you're 'forced' to do is acknowledge the right of people of other religions to express their religion as you have the right to express yours.
There is no longer tolerance for Christians because no one wants to tolerate Christ and His truth.
Letting you have your 50 foot tall crucifixes, offensive billboards (i.e. billboards telling people they're going to hell if they're not part of your cult), and giving tax breaks to churches is NOT a form of persecution. There are Christians in the world that really DO get persecuted and you make a mockery of their struggles. As for nobody wanting to hear about Christianity, well, the Constitution guarantees your right to speak your mind it doesn't guarantee that everyone is going to listen.

No, they challenge your opinion of what God says, and your opinion that your interpretation of the Holy Bible is right, despite the fact that the vast majority of the Christian world thinks your interpretation is nonsense.
I think you're confusing tolerance with unquestioning acceptance . Those two have nothing in common. Plus, you should welcome people to challenge god and the holy bible, you know, to show everyone how strong and true it is :)

It's not a "ritual religious object." It's a cultural celebration of the birth of a child and the child's early years.
It's more like an ongoing birthday cake than a rosary. Any religious significance it may have had it lost in the past. Today's it's viewed as an example of Native American yarn weaving capable of being done by fairly young children.
Not only does it provide a creative opportunity it's darn good for motor skills as well.
There's really no rational reason to take offense.
I totally did this project in elementary school! It's just a fun craft with yarn and some popsicle sticks, definitely no reason to get one's panties in a knot.
Not to mention it looks like some Christians have adopted the craft, according to this page, anyway: http://www.christiancrafters.com/craft_godseye.html
This is just silly!
The respect and tolerance goes both way, Bubba! Jesus (supposedly) told you to treat others as you want to be treated. "That which you do to the least of my people, you do to me".
You, as a country, are not a Christian Nation. (I guess this is written in the US.) God of the Bible has no special position over any other god over there.
You know, it's funny. Moderate Christians aren't threatened by pagan beliefs because they know those beliefs are bullshit and as such they are able to enjoy these cultural artifacts without a problem, whereas as fundies inadvertently give these beliefs legitimacy by being threatened by them. The fundies seem to think they are fighting evil whereas sane people can see that they're doing nothing but attacking windmills.
Not to worry autumn8297, you needn't respect my beliefs if you don't want to, I won't mind. And believe it or not, I do respect your right to believe in scripturally powered flight for mid-riffian ritualistic purposes prior to speeding heavenward to your very own mansion, and all to be activated by some kind of angelic wind band fanfare. Or something like that. Why wouldn't I respect what is a major source of humour, as long as it doesn't hurt others?
Personally, I tolerate Christians simply because I don't care what other people believe in their heads. It is what people do that concerns me. People who try to replace our children's scientific education with religious fables, restrict the rights of productive and rational citizens to engage in legal contracts like marriage and redefine our legal system to be in line with their narrow (and often erroneous) view of what their god wants get nothing but contempt from me. It doesn't matter to me if they are Christian or some other flavor of believer.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
