Well, they're their own atheist gods. Articles like the one the OP cited are the reason this crowd is called "the culture of death", one of their themes is an obsession with the beginning and ending of life.
They all think they're related to a blade of crabgrass and that all life is some big cosmic accident and has no meaning whatsoever.
