(part of a longer comment warning against the evil of Child Protection Services)
#2 "There is a strong anti-Christian sentiment among many CPS workers. Christians are known to believe in corporal punishment, which is tantamount to abuse in 'child-saver' circles. Christians are also seen as rigid and intolerant, unfit to rear children for the New World Order. Homosexual case workers, aware of Christian teachings regarding their lifestyle, are often hostile to parents who display their faith. The New York State Council of Family and Child Caring Agencies (CFCCA) warns that parents who...display an "over involvement in religion" are suspect". (Brenda Scott- "out of Control").

"Christians are known to believe in corporal punishment, which is tantamount to abuse"...check!
"Christians are also seen as rigid and intolerant, unfit to rear children"...true that!
"case workers are often hostile to parents who display their faith. The New York State Council of Family and Child Caring Agencies (CFCCA) warns that parents who...display an "over involvement in religion" are suspect"...correct!
With just very minor editing, the truth emerges. Amazing!
Fundies really despise Child Protective Agencies. Fundie radio shows make really wild and outlandish accusations about these agencies. "They're all convicted child molesters!" "They torture children!" "They want to force your kids to take a mark on their foreheads!"
It reminds me of the paranoia about FEMA. Many of these same people think that FEMA wants to kill everyone, when the reality is that FEMA can't even operate a fax machine correctly.
I don't understand why these people get so worked-up about some of the most mundane things. Then again, they aren't known for rationality anyhow...
Why stop there? Why not add "Christians are known to deny health care to their children, rather just pray, since if God wants the kid to live, they'll get better on their own."
Beating children and teaching them to hate people, hmm, I seem to have an anti-Fundie bias, at least.
Christians are also seen as rigid and intolerant...
I can't imagine where that impression came from.
Homosexual case workers, aware of Christian teachings regarding their lifestyle, are often hostile to parents who display their faith.
Maybe it's because they're aware that your holy book calls for homosexuals to be killed. Speaking personally, I can say without hesitation that death threats tend to make me hostile, too.

Truer a word was never spoken. How many times do we have to hear about a child dying due to a parent's religious belief?

Wow, that reminds me of some of the attacks Scientologists use on detractors: To immediately accuse them of being criminals hiding crimes by attacking Scientology. How this is supposed to work, I don't know.
The two groups have the same end in mind: to denigrate and neutralize their targets by dragging their names and reputations in the mud.
These outlandish claims are made almost daily on the right-wing religious shortwave stations- the ones that aren't supposed to broadcast to a domestic auduience, although the FCC overlooks that. These guys claim that guvvimmint agents want to snatch millions of chilren from their good, Christian parents. ORLY? They can't find adoptive parents for the ones who are in the system now, and foster kids often fall victim to abuse because they're forced to take what they can get for foster parents. And we're to believe "they" are going to flood this system with millions more just for the hell of it?
"Christians are also seen as rigid and intolerant, unfit to rear children"
Only the occasion where they, you know, are. No one stereotypes Christians like this, so stop this "wah, they's persecutin' us for spanking like Jesus told us to!" schtick.
How many case workers do you think are gay, and how many gay people do you think have grown to despise Christianity due to overexposure to fundamentalist bigotry? Not a whole lot.
Hhhmmmm....I went to the link and read the "thoughts" and "stories" on the page. Having worked for (Canadian) Child and Family Services I can say with complete honesty. That is the biggest, smelliest, most dangerous crock of shit I've ever read in my life.
Maybe it's not a case of Christians being persecuted for their beliefs, maybe it's because Christians are more likely to abuse/neglect their children (after all, a quiver full is a lot of mouths to feed!)
There is a strong anti-Christian sentiment among many CPS workers.
There is a strong anti anti-Christian sentiment in a great many places. And not without reason, I might add.
Down here they're called DCF - and they do suck, but I've mostly found that's because certain "christians" will call them on you falsely if they get mad at you, which means they take time and resources away from children who are actually being abused - such as fundie children. It's a conspiracy!
I don't want CPS to be tolerant of True Christian(TM) child abuse! If you people would treat your children humanely, we wouldn't have stories about children beaten and starved for Jebus, and CPS would have less of a caseload.
Christians are also seen as rigid and intolerant, unfit to rear children for the New World Order.
There is only one organisation in the United States that both wishes to create a tyrannical New World Order(tm) and could actually bring it about if everyone else doesn't keep a very close eye on them - and they carry crosses.
Christians are also seen as rigid and intolerant
Gee, I wonder whatever gave the rest of society that idea?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
