Hootmon: Being able to vote should require at least as much desire and knowledge as getting a driver's license.
OnceWasLost: A basic skills test. The vote rewards ignorance for far too many.

I agree w/ this, and lol @ this comment in the thread:
Most people I know are voting "Obama" because I quote, "He ain't Bush!". Sad, but true. They don't realize that BUSH is not on the ballot.
Oh, yes he was, but under a different name - John McCain.
Oh, and then there's this comment...
How about this one:
If you don't pay taxes, you don't get to vote.
That would eliminate about 40% of the Obama supporters.
These people are so very sad.
"If you don't pay taxes, you don't get to vote."
Great. Next we can make it so only white male landowners can vote.
Guaranteed Republican landslides!
In my state, you can fill out a form, have your photo taken, and get one (though it says 'non-driver' on it). It's not that hard.
As I recall from friends telling me, the actual test is easier.
@POSW - and the mid-terms.
These are the SAME people that said "God will choose the next President"
And Lo! God HAS chosen the next President.
BTW, here in the USA they give away driving licences with Corn Flakes.
Try taking a driving test in Canada or Europe.
I agree with this one. Anyone who thought that Obahma was an Islamic terrorist should not be allowed to vote. Anyone who doesn't understand why the Governator cannot be president, should not be allowed to vote.
Actually passing a civics class might not be a bad idea. Then again considering the idiots who have passed their drivers test....
I've also met a vet who sexed a cat wrong. The guy somehow passed all the tests, but seriously sexing a cat isn't that tough. balls or no balls, it's pretty damn easy.
@ David
Where exactly are these great Canadian Drivers? I sure as hell haven't met them. I've heard Italy will scare the crap out of you.
Me: So, who did you vote for?
Friend: Libertarians... I just don't like Harper.
Me: Um... Are you sure you don't mean the liberals ?
Friend: Ohhhh...
Thank FSM it wasn't a real vote.
Who marks the test?
If this question is answered in such a fashion as to assure me that the marking system can never be skewed, then I have little problem with this.
Ignorant voters are increasingly a problem - after all, Bush got in in 2000 and 2004.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
