"When I looked at those battleships going into the Mediterranean, supposedly getting ready for battle in Syria, I couldn’t help think"...
...why weren't those three F-37 Talon hypersonic fighters - and the UCAV 'E.D.I.' - based on, say, the USS Iowa battleship, instead of the Nimitz-class USS Abraham Lincoln in the film "Stealth"?!
Because, I mean, even it's 16-inch guns have a limited range, despite their power. Isn't the multi-role abilities of aircraft - say, from an aircraft carrier - much better, than something that can't carry F-18s at least...?!
..oh, and one more thing, re. the aforementioned USS Abraham Lincoln, Sand-for-brains: several years ago, I watched a 'fly-on-the-bulkhead' documentary on that Nimitz-class carrier, and on some of it's crew, during the recent conflict in Iraq. One was a US Marine pilot of an F-18. Another was the carrier hangar's main weapons officer (supervising the loading & unloading of munitions etc on aircraft, prior to launch & upon their return, ensuring unused munitions were returned to stores, with the paperwork to go with it; military efficiency, and all that jazz). The latter guy should make you consider that 'homosexuals/DADT etc' in the US Navy should be the least of your problems.
In that documentary, there was a scene in which said weapons officer - after checking on a compass (as the carrier was moving, natch) - prayed on a rug in a certain direction: Mecca. He's a Muslim.
PROTIP: He stated how he loved his country, followed his pledge to defend the Constitution from all enemies, both foreign and domestic, and that he obeyed the orders of his superior officers, and his C-in-C, the president of the US. Time to Riot, Sandy. >:D
