Liberals love pedophiles, because they must do so to keep their own belief system intact.
For liberals to denounce pedophiles, ultimately they would have to denounce, lesbianism, homsexuality, and their particular favorite - adultery. And that's just no going to happen.

I'm pretty much a liberal, and I consider adultery (i.e., cheating on a spouse or significant other) one of the most despicable things a person can do. Pedophilia is right up there, too.
It's a lot easier to slam "liberals" that exist only in fiction, but doing so makes about as much sense as saying that we need to overthrow the Emperor Ming in the next election. Oh, wait, that's more or less true.

Yeah, I'm as liberal as they come, and I think adultery is pretty shitty and pedophilia is downright abominal, and I know both of these are committed by conservatives to the same extent (possibly to a greater extent) than by those of any other political leaning. Not being a mind-fucked fundie bigot, I, of course, have nothing against lesbianism or homosexuality.
"Liberals love pedophiles, because they must do so to keep their own belief system intact."
Your ignorance is showing. Liberals have no greater love of pedophiles than conservatives. How we propose to deal with pedophiles may be different, but we do not love or encourage pedophilia.
"For liberals to denounce pedophiles, ultimately they would have to denounce, lesbianism, homsexuality, and their particular favorite - adultery."
Lesbians are not any more likely than anyone else to be pedophiles.
As a liberal, environmentalist atheist, let me clearly state that I think adultery is a very bad idea. If you need to have sex outside your marriage, you shouldn't be married.
As for "homsexuality," I can only assume that you mean having sex at home. I think we can all agree that is the most discreet place for sexual encounters. I thought even a Fundie moron like you would be in favor of that.
"And that's just no going to happen."
Plenty of liberals have denounced pedophilia. It's already happened, Kev. Do try to keep up with the class.
Look ... is 'paedophilia' spelt differently in the US, or what? I keep seeing 'pedophile' and thinking of foot fetishists. Anyway, I denounce paedophilia loud and clear, and I don't think much of cheating on your partner, either. So there.
Yes, it gets me too. I always just type paedophilia. It's these damn Americans, always making mistakes when learning the English language. I mean, color?
Tiny Bulcher: No, the problem is that "pedophilia" is consistently misspelled in the U.K. and other places using British English.
;^D
Seriously, my first thought when I read the word "pedophiles" was "people who like feet." I was horrified to find out what it actually meant; the very concept was incredibly repulsive.

Spelling differences like those mentioned are problematic enough, but the whole Jam-Jelly-Jello continuum is what gets me, and where marmelade fits in there is anyone's guess. Not to mention the hilarity that ensued when someone asked an American student I know if he could borrow her rubber...
Brain_In_A_Jar, the same thing happened to a female journalism student I knew who was from England. The American male student she asked for this, in class, was completely thrown; once everything was explained all around, the entire class had a good long laugh about it, but it took awhile for her blush to wear off in that class!

I am enlightened, thus:
"Many words are written with ae or oe in British English, but a single e in American English. The sound in question is or [ɛ] (or unstressed [ə]). Examples (with non-American letter in bold): anaemia, anaesthesia, caesium, diarrhoea, gynaecology, haemophilia, leukaemia, oesophagus, oestrogen, orthopaedic, paediatric. Words where British usage varies include encyclopaedia, foetus, homoeopathy, mediaeval. Words where American usage varies include aesthetic and oenology. Archaeology retains the a in both versions (although archeology is also accepted in American English, it is uncommon), although the ligature is usually dropped. This difference is also half of the distinction between British manoeuvre and American maneuver." (Wikipedia, or should that be Wikipaedia?)
I must say, though, that whilst spelling changes like color/colour are fair enough, changing technical terms where the term has a specific meaning in Greek or Latin seems to be going a bit far. (Not that pedophilia would mean foot-fetishists; that would be a mangling of Latin and Greek, a thing you should never do, or so they told me on television).
What part of "informed consent", and the fact that children cannot give it and adults can, do you not understand? There is no inconsistency at all in saying that pedophilia is wrong and homosexuality is not.
As for adultery, if you've made the commitment to stick with one person you damn well better follow through. If by adultery you mean pre-marital sex, though, see above comment about consentual behavior.
If you want to criticize liberals, do so for the things we actually do believe. Making shit up will give you exactly zero credibility among those who haven't already drunk the Kool-Aid.
OUR particular favorite? Who are you kidding? Christians cheat on their spouses just as much as non. Perhaps even moreso, since many non-Christians aren't bound by such strict sexual codes.
And, once again, all together: pedophelia and homosexuality are not related any more than pedophelia and heterosexuality are.
Similarly, because liberals don't denounce sex between non-married people, they must be fans of rape.
Oh, and to chime in--I also find cheating on a partner, whether you are married to them or not, to be despicable. Why? Not because it's sex outside of marriage, but because it's a betrayal of the relationship and the person you're with. I'm pro-love, and pro-choice. Choice as in willing consent (yeah, I guess that's redundant). But the other kind of pro-choice too. :P
Gonna chime in here that I'm a liberal atheist, but I condemn pedophilia in the strongest possible terms, and I disapprove of adultery.
As for British-American English confusion, I remember being on a tour bus with my fellow American college students, and our English tour guide warned us that we had to get up early the next day, so he promised to knock us up in the morning.
Fundamentalists hate the death penalty, because they must do so to keep their own belief system intact.
For Fundamentalists to endorse the death penalty, ultimately they would have to endorse abortion. And that's just not going to happen.
"their particular favorite - adultery"
Any idea what he means by this? Perhaps he's talking about open relationships/marriages, which are probably more likely to be undertaken by liberals than conservatives, but are only adultery by the Bible definition.
And, apparently, Bush, by the same logic, loves islamic terrorist. Because if he denounce them, he will have to denounce fundie Christian, and then practicing Christians............
Part of the reason (IMHO) for a lot of adultery is the outdated concept of marriage. Staying with one partner for thirty years is unnatural, no matter how much you love someone. Now I realize many people's reaction to adultery, I for one see at least a percent of the time where it has been a good thing. Hear me out. Some of the folks I know have had flings with coworkers etc, but with different reasons. One guy's significant other has had a multitude of problems and has had a hysterectomy before she was thirty. she loves her husband (who was more sexual then her to begin with), but she also feels for him. she is in pain sometimes, and other times she is doing it like an automoton because it just doesn't mean much to her anymore. She allows (with conditions) him to have an occasional fling provided he doesn't "fall in love" with them or bring a disease home. May sound weird to some but it works for them.
A great part of sex for men is the release. It's like getting hungry or tired, it has to be dealt with. There is a reason that females are prostitutes a million times more often then men, men have a stronger drive or at least a more consistant one. This is not making excuses but merely stating a fact. If there were a logical answer to the problem I'm sure I'd be behind it, but as the world is, adultery is common and not the be-all end-all that some think it to be.
THink about it, most times that I hear of someone having an affair it is usually at the cost of a long marriage. People who aren't married do the same thing and aren't looked down upon. What other solution is there except to put time limits on marriage? The gay folk that I know are quite free with their passion and I couldn't imagine most of them being married adn staying faithfull. Just about the only married people who don't have affairs are the ones that only last a few years.
At any rate, the problems of a stale marriage, nagging or abusive spouse and the raping of children are quite different. I CAN see why folks are down on adultery, but it hardly need be spoken in the same breath with pedophiles.
Oh and kevin is full of shit.
I think the whole pedophile problem is exaggerated, personally. I honestly do. I mean, everyone's scared of them, the news has talked about them too often in the past, and stuff, so I have been led to believe it's exaggerated. 1 out of 5 children may be sexually solicite online, but 1 out of 5 adults probably don't even know what "solicited" means. Besides, little of those solicitations likely actually become problems, and this is coming from a thirteen-year-old girl.
The problem seems to have been exaggerated for a "culture of fear" effect. Fundies prey on the culture of fear, as some of you already probably know.

Michie, I'm sorry, but one does not need to know the word "solicitation" in order to be doing it.
As for your belief that such predations are exaggerated, you may be right. However, even you recognize that it DOES exist, so some kind of risk for kids exists. It's like a bet; no matter how likely you are to win, winning is never certain, so don't wager more than you can afford to lose. Your life is too much to be gambling with, no matter WHAT the odds are.

This makes no sense. Why would someone who denounces pedophiles also "have to" denounce homosexuals? They have nothing to do with each other. Almost everyone denounces pedophiles. As for adultery, more people denounce it than abstain from it; but liberals certainly have no monopoly on the practice.
There's no evidence that homosexuals are more likely to molest children, although fundies like to maintain this myth to rationalize discriminating against them.
I hate child molesters as much as the next person, liberal or conservative. However, a "pedophile" is not a "child molester" just because he/she has a sexual attraction. The moment they act on any urge is when the "pedophile" becomes a "molester". Most (say, 90%) pedophiles would agree that molestation is the most despicable thing that one could do to a child.
Informed consent.
That is all.
Right-wing Christian Fundamentalists love hypocrites:
Jim Bakker (Embezzling PTL 'pledge' funds)
Jimmy Swaggart (Adultery)
Ted Faggard (Condemning homosexuality, whilst secretly being a homosexual himself)
Kent Hovind (Not rendering unto Caesar)
Tony Alamo (Serial statutory rapist; will rot in jail)
David J. Stewart (Paedophile )
Because they must do so to keep their belief system intact.
For Right-wing Fundamentalist Christians to denounce hypocrisy, ultimately they would have to denounce fraud, adultery, homsexuality, tax evasion, rape, and their particular favourite - paedophilia. . And that's just not going to happen.
Because if every right-wing Fundamentalist Christian preacher was exposed and investigated, and ultimately jailed, the resulting scandal(s) would destroy their religion as a whole.
Just ask the Roman Catholic Church. Can you say 'P.R. Disaster?' Now name one Atheist scandal?
Fundamentalist Christianity. One big perpetual traincrash. And thus advancing the cause of Atheism.
I'm a liberal, except possibly on a couple of issues. I hereby denounce pedophilia. As a matter of fact, I think the worst of them should probably get the death penalty. I don't have any problem with gays, and adultery is a private matter between the involved parties. There ya go. Anything else?
So Kevin are you in favour of selling children into sexual slavery or are you one of those anti -free-market communists?
False dichotomies, even if you didn't know what a dichotomy was, there's a big clue in the "false" part!
Confused?
