I really hate it when atheists I know try to act like they look down on me for believing in God. Saying shit like they didn't know I was one of those weak minded people who needs to cling to some imaginary God for strength. Fuck that, and fuck anyone who thinks that. You know what I think? I think it shows MORE strength of character to hold onto your belief in things unseen, like God. It takes more will and mind power to believe in something purely on faith, something that CAN'T be proved, to stand up against science and atheists and anyone else who says your wrong. If you don't believe in God, and you believe in science...WOW, you believe it because science says it is so and there's all this proof. You need to see to believe -- you have no faith. Isn't that weaker? Isn't THAT the real lacking, to not be able to believe in something without seeing it yourself.

That's just an answer to all the people who come at me like that. Personally, I really don't care what anyone else believes. You have your beliefs, I have mine, and as long as your beliefs aren't detrimental to my life or the lives of others, go on with your bad self. But do me that same favor, leave me to my beliefs without your snide little comments or condescending attitude.

I don't see how it takes more willpower to be one of the majority of Human beings on Earth who believe what they believe only because they are indoctrinated into it at an early age. It's brainwashing pure and simple. But, if you went against your parents and society to end up with your belief in god that's another matter and I do have respect for people who think things out rationally and objectively before they come to any belief.
However, your argument is quite flawed. Especially the part where you make science into a belief system. It's the study of the observable universe and it comes to conclusions based on hard facts which you can see for yourself and is reviewed by the greatest minds we have. For example, if science shows you how the world is round, but your faith tells you it's flat, you can review the facts that has lead to that conclusion since the days of Ancient Greece and then walk around the Earth yourself. To deny the existence of a round Earth in light of this is not the act of a strong willed person, but instead the act of a stupid person. However, science cannot prove the existence of a higher power or not, so my belief that there isn't one and your belief that there is may be based off the knowledge we gain from science, but ultimately stands apart from it. I would also question where exactly you get your faith from. Are you Christian or do you simply believe in a higher power apart from organized religion? Christians form their faith off of a 2000 year old book and hope that the Humans who wrote it weren't like the countless other Human writers in history who wrote other mythologies and modern day religions. To me that is highly irrational behavior and the reason for my atheism. However, if one were to simply believe in the possibility of higher powers that do not influence Humanity, that has as much ground to stand on as atheism. It also would give someone hope that they can live on after death without having to buy into the religious mumble jumbo countless religions would try to sell you. But, either way I agree with your last paragraph. People who preach to others/insult you simply because you tell them that you believe something else is completely uncalled for and annoying.

It would take a great deal of energy and will power to go through life insisting that black is white, but that doesn't make it true. Indeed, but no matter the energy or will power involved in maintaining a belief, the facts are still the facts. No, belief in some wild, unsupported assertions because you wish they were true is much "weaker" than believing in assertions supported by credible evidence, whether or not those assertions are comfortable. I accept the evidence and conclusions presented by qualified scientists who subject their work to peer review. I don't find that approach lacking in any way. Never come to Sweden, 'kay? To most Swedes, it's pretty baffling that someone ACTUALLY still believe in those ancient myths and legends. Most of us don't even care enough to call ourselves atheists, any more than we call ourselves aunicornists, or aghostists.

Most people (religious AND atheists) accept science as real, as there is EVIDENCE FOR IT. Religion and science is not an either/or thing, dearie, nor is religion and cars, nor religion and automatic weapons.

I don't believe in gods because the more I learned about religion, the less sense it all makes.

I haven't seen my bladder nor my lungs, I still think they exist.

SOME of them, I look down on because they offer the STUPIDEST arguments outside of a sovereign citizen in tax court.
SOME of them, I find distasteful because they just won’t shut the fuck up about their superstition.
