Some books should be burned, and the KJV should be the first to feel the heat.
Gee, I wonder why the Church encouraged just such burning in the past? I guess we, in this benighted 21st Century, are so much more progressive and open-minded and forward thinking than those musty old medieval churchmen.
Hooray, progress!
And if we had a proper Catholic government, ruling by divine right, the KJV and all other heretical works would be confiscated.

I'm against burning books, even ones I disagree with, because the knowledge they contain can be better suited if they still exist. Take the Mein Kumpaf. If that was burned then how can we show fundies Hitler was a Christian?
Red: Protestant/Baptist/whatever fundies, otherwise you're talking about the Catholic fundies as well. :P
But, honestly, KMXV... why ban/burn books? If you believe it's wrong, well... use it as an example to like-minded fellows, point out where it's wrong and conflicts with your favourite version of the Bible. There's no bloody reason on earth why you need to actually annihilate a book just because of what it says. -_-#
You know, the majority of translations out there probably aren't too far off the mean in terms of accuracy, though for a Catholic Bible you'd definitely want the Apocrypha (IIRC the RCC is particularly fond of pulling readings from Sirach, and Maccabees should be required reading for anyone trying to understand Jewish history). Funny, the KJV actually has those, at least in the more comprehensive editions...
I do find it funny that a Catholic would be a translation fundy though. The only reason I happen to like the NAB is because it's the translation that I grew up with, used by the Archdiocese of Boston. Honestly, I'd rather have a more scholarly version (needless to say Scofield anything does NOT count), but those tend to be only New Testament or Old Testament due to the language differences.
I know there's Lattimore for the NT -- who was that guy who did the literalist Tanakh, straight from the Hebrew?
Wow, lots of Catholic fundism this month.
Mind you, the KJV is a sucky translation, but burning books is bad, m'kay?
You can't put the genie back in the bottle, sorry.
Did Reichsfuehrer Ratzinger activate the catholic fundie falange at long last? Or what?
Like most fundies you aren't very bright. The "divine right" of kings is what the KJV was made to advocate! And those wonderful mideval churchmen brought us the "Dark Ages", the crusades, witch burning, and "indulgences".PS To me book-burners should be hung, shot, then boiled in oil. Killing humans is horrible, attempting to kill ideas is horrendous!
Oddly with Herr Pope marching proudly into the 5th century and saying mass should revert back to Latin, he has a point no matter how sad.
Ruling by "divine" right? They tried ruling by "divine" might, if they had any divine right don't you think they would be?
Really? I thought Harry Potter would be first since you nuts are already doing that. Please tell me it's at least second though because I am so sick of seeing 30 and 40 years reading that in public. Trust me, it would make me feel so much better if we could just take away their rights to read whatever they want just so I don't have to see someone with a book I consider to be silly once or twice a year. I mean really, what in the world is wrong with those people? Don't they know that I know what is best for them to read and that they should model themselves after my divine judgement? The nerve of some people, you know?
PROHIBITION DOESN'T WORK!
Sorry for screaming, but jesus-fucking-shit people, did it work with booze, guns, drugs, books, etc in the past or present? Is anything ever banished forever just because a group wants it that way? Besides, as with anything, the people should be able to look at all sides and make up their own minds. But that's the last thing the church wants, because they crave the power like anyone else.
IFBaptist Girl:
The King James version is one of the least faithful translations of the original Greek & Hebrew to date. K
ing James had young boys in his bed on a regular basis.
And lastly, "Judge not lest ye be judged," o modern Pharisee.
I used to joke with my friends that if I ever get a book or CD published, I'll go undercover as a fundie and organize a mass burning of the "evil, godless" product as a way of boosting publicity.
As I hear more attitudes like this, I'm starting to think it would actually work.

Um, yeah. There's a reason we don't do that anymore.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
