This spring, when the Supreme Court hears arguments on the gay marriage cases the justices accepted Friday, it is going to be hearing much more than a case on the definition of marriage. This case could ultimately determine our very way of life moving forward as a people.
The American view of law and government is summarized in our founding document, the Declaration of Independence, by these three things:
- There is a God.
- Our rights come from God, not government.
- Government's only role is to preserve and protect those God-given rights.
Should the Supreme Court decide it has the authority to essentially play god, and redefine an institution such as marriage which predates it by at least 5,000 years, they will be saying erotic liberty trumps religious liberty. In other words, the sexual revolution takes precedence over the American Revolution.

Nice try asswipe. You need to do better than that if you want to rewrite American history.
Our fiunding document is the Constitution, which does not bring your god, or any god, in to the picture.
Please, for once, explain how SSM will do anything to infringe on your religious "liberty". They're not redifining marriage, just expanding that definition. Like was done to allow inter-racial marriage. America didn't comecrashing down then, your "liberty" wasn't taken away then, and it won't now.
our founding document, the Declaration of Independence
Our founding document is the Constitution, not the DoI.
they will be saying erotic liberty trumps religious liberty.
Nobody should have the religious liberty to take away the rights of other people.
Actually, the DoI doesn't say "God," it says "Creator." It specifically does not say the Christian God.
One of those Creator-given rights is the right to marry the person you love. The SCOTUS is preserving and protecting that right.
Have you even fucking read the thing?
If there's one reason for which I regret more than any other how brief my life must ultimately be, it's that I won't be around to celebrate the fading of life from the already naturally dull eyes of the last of your fuckwitted descendants.
- There is a God.
And his name is Tezcatlipoca.
- Our rights come from God, not government.
And to keep your rights, Tezcatlipoca wants you to sacrifice human hearts to him EVERY DAY! NO EXCEPTIONS!
- Government's only role is to preserve and protect those God-given rights.
So keep those sacrifices coming!
The "American view" is summarized in our constitution, you ninny, and I suggest you read it. And the "definition of marriage", and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here, is defined in many different ways in the BIBLE, so if you choose to do so, you can read that too. No, not just the bits that bolster your arguments, the whole thing.
Allowing someone ELSE to marry does nothing at all to YOUR marriage, and civilization hasn't crumbled in all the places it's legal.
I thought the founding document was the Constitution.
It's also summarized by these three things:
- Only men are created equal
- Apparently, male slaves were not "men"
- People who commit crimes are no longer "men".
The Bible isn't nearly as specific about marriage as you think, Stevie dear.

"they will be saying erotic liberty trumps religious liberty"
No, they will be saying that human rights trumps institutions' rights.
Besides, religious rights means no-one can dictate which religion you must have. It does NOT mean you can do whatever you want for religious reasons. Your rights still end where the next person's begin.
The constitution gave freedom from religion as well as the freedom of religion. It didn't give a specific mandate for Christians to have more freedom over others, Orwellian style, as you think it implies.
Also, you have not demonstrated why we shouldn't have 'erotic liberties.' All you have got is personal sensibilities and one flawed book. Freedom doesn't come with a caveat which states that any action is okay provided that no theist is offended.
It's so clear you have to change words to show it.
Creator isn't by default your God.
The first nation had regionally several others they could name. In fact, since many were dragged into this war that document says creator specifically to NOT be your God but to appease them and immigrants who weren't Christian.
Also, without proclaiming someone Emperor or something they needed a sort of placeholder until they could hopefully form their own independent country. While not unknown, a representative government was rare and took a long time to develop.
Confused?
