It reminds me of the frog being put into a pot of cold water and being boiled.

If you put a frog in boiling water, it will jump out, but if you put a frog in cold water, and then boil it, gradually increasing the temperature, it will allow itself to be cooked.
In other words, this is a variant on the slippery slope fallacy.

It's just an old anecdote, basically says that if humans are slowly desensitized to the dangers they don't realize until too late that they've been had. True enough, and obviously has a wide range of applications, for instance, the slow but steady brainwashing of people and the rise in power of the religious right, and then people didn't expect to be forced to wear burkas or whatever the restrictions were.. Just blah blah, it's a rhetorical device that is easy to adapt to the purposes at hand. Whether or not you believe it is properly used here depends on whether or not you think Massachussettes should allow out of town weddings.
The country is in an endless and pointless war, banks are failing, unemployment is going through the roof, car makers are going broke, housing is a dead market, we are a trillion dollars in debt, our President is a big oil and Saudi Arabian toadie, and all you fucking idiots are worried about is whether two people that love each other can get married?

That was in An Inconvienient Truth.
"And...well....Um...You save the frog. It's important to save the frog."
What's funny, that noone seems to get, is that under the Constitution, these assholes legally have no right to prohibit gay marriage. Article IV, Section I; Full Faith and Credit. Read it, and deal with it.
OH, man, every state allows out-of-state couples to get married there. So if you want to get hitched during a vacation, or at a special place, or, in my case, we went to where most of my family lived and got married where more could attend.
Just need to fit the state’s qualifications.
The upset for the OP was that Massachusetts was going to allow marriages that would not be legal where the couple lived at, hoping their state would be forced to honor them anyway.
ROMNEY tried to enforce a law from the 40s that would prevent Mass from performing weddings if they were not legal at the couple’s home. This was a remnant of interracial prohibitions in other parts of the country. That law’s obsolete but still on the books.
But most country clerks refused to play his game, making him the Gay-Friendly governor for many people, because he had the watch whenthe court overturned the law.
OP is saying that the gay agenda will be introduced on a state-by-state basis until suddenly, it’s all over everywhere and you never noticed.
Confused?
