This is one of the reasons some atheists such as Anthony Flew eventually accepted God as a first cause, as initial inception explanations of matter then life how life got started amounted to a spontaneous appearance by the combination of time and coincidence.

Ie:
if you wait long enough a big bang will occur manifesting matter where there was nothing before ,
if you wait long enough the inert matter will combine into stars and planets
if you wait long enough complex molecules will combine producing life that will evolve
if you wait long enough evolution will produce persons reading arstechnica.com on cell phone screens while riding the subway to work.

1) The big bang came from a singularity, so manifesting matter where there was matter before. We know loads about the time just after the big bang but pretty much nothing about what happens before. We, however, are not so narcissistic as to believe we know everything. There is no evidence to say that a god did it, so we do not believe a god did it. It's possible one did, but the probability is so small that it's negligible. The chance that if a god did trigger the big bang, it was the specific deity you've conjured up is to negligible what negligible is to highly improbable.

God as a first cause has the problem of what HIS cause is just like the supposed first cause problem of the Big Bang theory. He doesn't explain anything, just adds yet another unexplained entity.

1. Whether there was "nothing" before the Big Bang is still highly debatable, though this might be more of a philosophical question (it might be one of these things that we can only hypothesize about). That matter manifested afterwards is almost trivially true however.

2. Isn't gravity a wonderful thing?

3.+4. Well, yeah. Exactly. The question is not whether this happened, but HOW. Or do you want to deny that life as we know it consists of complex chemicals, or that people who are reading stuff on arstechnica exist (such denial of self-existence would be pretty hilarious)? And evolution is an unavoidable effect of the interplay of reproduction, environment and genetic variation, all of which exist, which in turn means that evolution does.
