Actually, it isn't. At least, it wasn't considered a sin by the people who originally wrote the stories contained in the Bible. It wasn't until a few centuries later, when too many Christians were seeking martyrdom (thereby endangering the Church's cash flow) that the Christian Church decreed the seeking of martyrdom (suicide) to be sinful.
Even after that decree, suicide isn't the one unforgivable sin (that'd be blaspheming the Holy Spirit), so damnation wouldn't be a sure thing for the OP.
actually, I take that back. If (by bizarre turn of fate) I became an atheist president of america, I would find people committing suicide due to my very presidency deeply disturbing and do something about it. I guess that's because I have morals.

I could imagine a worst case scenario of an atheist with a vendetta against religion becoming president, but an atheist with no agenda or hate would be fine.

We in the UK elected (in the early 70s) Edward Heath as Prime Minister. He was single, and an Atheist (and a Conservative, to boot!). Britain hasn't ceased to exist as a result.
