The rate of true pedophilia in the Catholic priesthood is lower than in the general population. The vast majority of predators were practicing homosexuals who never should have been in he priesthood to begin with. Since the New York Times, Washington Post, etc., will never, ever EVER say anything negative about homosexual behavior, voila! "Pedophile priests"!

Most pedophiles are male heterosexuals.
In the past when priests were supposed to be celibate, priesthood might have been an "inconspicuous" way out for gay people, who didn't have to explain why they didn't take a wife and raised a family.
Newspapers mostly refrain from printing lies about homosexuals, yes. Instead they are printing the truth, that the Church has been covering up pedophilia within the priesthood. Voila!

Oh well, I guess it's OK if just SOME kids got molested by priests and the church covered it all up. That makes it so much better.
The fact that there are any pedophiles at all in the priesthood ought to be cause for alarm, seeing as how they're often in the company of young children. And for an organization which claims to be the only authority on human morality, having pedophiles in their ranks is pure hypocrisy.

Since a lot of it goes unreported there's really no way to know this statistically, however, the Catholic (and other denominations) make a point of not reporting it, hiding it and protecting the offenders. The tip of this iceberg could be below water for all we know.

Most male pedophiles who rape young boys are heterosexual. They are doing it either for control or the average young boy's ostensible "feminine" qualities... or both.
Either way, it lacks informed, willing consent.
