Let's assume Bella is correct. 2 feet per day means the surface would be one foot further away every day (or one foot closer every day in history. That means 5000 years ago, the surface must have been 1,825,000 feet closer. Thats a touch over 345 miles in 5000 years. Considering the sun is about 93 million miles away, then 5000 years ago, the surface was 0.0003.71% closer. Hardly worth worrying about, really, is it? Certainly not enough for the 'earth to be burned up'.

Oh, and by the way, the sun is NOT shrinking. However, it does oscillate in a minor way, with a periodicity of between 76 and 80 years.

Some of the planets have ice. True. The reason it is there, is because the temperature is too low for it to melt. Other planetary temperatures are pretty stable, just as Earth's is. Little has change in our temperatures in the last 5000 years, so why should theirs?

So many scientific facts to baffle the T4C kids. Why don't they just ask their science teachers for the answers instead of making fools of themselves? Better yet,,, do some simple research on the Internet.

Let's go with your flawed hypothesis (actually closer to jibba-jabba!) for a moment, Bella. IF the rate of the sun's shrinking is steady at 2 feet per day, over the 4.5 billion years there would be no more than a 6.6% increase in the distance from the outermost shell of the sun to the earth way back at the earth's "birth." In 5000 years, the sun would have lost 671.76 miles of diameter, less than a trip from Eureka, CA to San Diego, CA and a speck in AU (7.2266536 × 10^-6 AU).

However, a reduction of 2 feet per day implies a massive slowing of the total shrinking, as the diameter shrinkage is a small fraction of the total volume shrinkage. I don't have the math, but for an analogy if you peel layers off an onion, even if the layers remain the same thickness you'll have less onion lost each layer you strip off. Another way to look at it is how many squares of paper towel get removed each time you remove one towel-thickness of the diameter. You'll find that there's less removed - a slowing of total loss - with each consecutive diameter-loss over time.

Of course, this is going to be lost on someone who thinks 5,000 years is a long time or that 671.76 miles is a lot.

Nope, in fact, the more it loses it's mass in the upcoming millions of years, the more it's gravity diminishes, becomes umpteenth times bigger, less denser blob of a Sun, ending up engulfing the whole Solar system. (well, at least the outer layers expand beyond Earth's orbit anyway) I'll stop at that...

Never crossed your mind, that they're far enough from the Sun, therefore the temperature on those planets never reach the melting point of said ice, whatever it consists of? No? I thought so. Protip: think about Earth's ice caps, if you have the capacity.
