So explain this to me. He [God] can crush you or nurture you depending on whether you do what he says, and your answer is to say 'why should I?!?' like a petulant four-year-old asking why he should do what his parents say?

Since God has not said to me what I should or should not do, I don't care.
When my children were 4, I told them directly what to do, and when they refused I punished them as needed. God has failed to tell me directly what to do, and I don't take the word of random people of what God has said.
My mother never tried to crush me when I disobeyed. She sat down with me and talked to me about it, and then I saw her point of view and understood why she'd asked me to do X task.
God never tells me what to do, and then he tortures me for not doing what he didn't tell me to do in the first place.
He [God] can crush you or nurture you depending on whether you do what he says, or not - His whim , and your answer is to say 'why should I?!?'
Well, damned if you do / damned if you don't.
No, rather like a petulant child asking why she should heed the monster in the closet.
A four-year-old knows that her parents exist. She does not know that the monster in the closet (aka God) exist.
“So explain this to me.”
SOmehow, I doubt the sincerity of your request…
“ He [God] can crush you or nurture you depending on whether you do what he says,”
Really? Because most Christains I’ve ever seen are insistent that THEY have the only religion that God approves. the Pope, the president of LDS, Joel Osteen, and Pat Robertson can’t ALL be doing ‘what He says.’
And that’s not even counting Hindu, Shinto, Islam, and whatever that screaming mutant on the Quad is talking about.
And none of them are ‘crushed’ for not doing ‘what he says.’
“and your answer is to say 'why should I?!?'”
Yeah, pretty much.
I mean, you don’t really spend much time on the benefits of following your God in the appropriate way, just straight to the threat. GOD WILL CRUSH YOU! But it’s historically kind of an empty threat.
Sure, Ghouls are quick to point to any disaster and say, “God did that because you touch yourself!” But I don’t really see a connection.
“like a petulant four-year-old asking why he should do what his parents say?”
my parents are real. At four they were constants in my life. They fed me and spanked me and I understood our relationship quite clearly.
THIS is more like ‘Eat your broccoli or President Nixon will invade Wakanda!’
Why should I credit the threat?
Confused?
