Playing with Barbie dolls shows an interest in girls, or simply in playing with toys, not in wanting to be a girl. If you force him to wear girl's clothing, you are not only being irrational, but abusive. (Slowly dials for Child Protective Services...)
You're one sick parent. Playing with a Barbie does not mean he wants to be a girl. It means he's curious about Barbie, or Barbie was right in front of him, or he saw someone else playing with Barbie and thought he'd try it. Barbie is a toy. Your son is 10. He is growing and learning and exploring his world.

When I was a boy I used to play with Barbie Dolls. I used to play: lets steal Barbie from my sister to make her cry. Lets see if Barbie can fly. Lets see if Barbie would make a good baseball. Lets see if Barbie can fly...with bottle rockets tied to her (nope).

Probably is. But the attitude is scarily similar to some real fundies I used to know.
I wouldn't count on it being a poe. It sounds like something you might see in a household with definate male/female roles, some of them are religious and others aren't.
An example would be a military household, back in the 60s it wasn't uncommon for male brats to be denied GI Joe because it's he's a doll. My father, who's agnostic, was one of those brats and he still has very rigid views about what boys "should" do, my sister hears about her son in ballet and I hear about mine cooking.
Obviously, he's only playign with Barbies because you wouldn't buy him that Optimus Prime toy he wanted. Cave in to his every toy-related demand, mortal fool, or he'll turn into a woman!

Being that strict with the male/female role thing will only make him into a miserable, useless prick of an adult.
If you give him the freedom to play with Barbies or whatever he wants now, as an adult, he'll be more likely to help his lady (he is still overwhelmingly likely to be interested in women) with "women stuff" around the house.

When I was a kid I used to play with trucks, ride bikes, climb trees, wore boys shoes. Hell, I have a girl cousin that tried to pee like a boy.

I played with barbies when I was a kid, and I'm a heterosexual, although I don't condemn homosexuals, they're people too. My son plays with barbies, and he shows no signs of being homosexual (he's actually the only 20 month old I know that continually hits on college girls). So, just let him play with the dolls, he'll be fine. You, however, I worry about...
