Normally, I would agree with you. But ‘The Laramie Project’?? What on earth would the football team be doing at a scumbag homofest like that in the first place? I’m thinking the university encouraged their attendance, or even required it. Many (most?) colleges today have a “diversity” requirement, the purpose of which is to provide teaching jobs for the people they graduated in “African American Studies”.

So you don't like a play that portrays the Westboro Baptist Church in an accurately bad light?
Diversity is about much more than African-American Studies. It's about realizing there are all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds and all kinds of walks of life. It's about learning that everyone can work together so long as people like you are willing to pull your head out of your ass.
I'm willing to bet that the football team was not required to attend, and that most did so because they felt it was right.
I believe this because the vast majority of people are not horrible bigoted small-minded ass-stains like you.
@Mad_Jester
Thanks for that info.
What, you don't think that someone would willingly go to something like that instead of being forced to? What's wrong with learning about diversity? What's wrong with attending a play to learn about how different people reacted to a horrible murder? There are more than just white, straight, Christian males in this country, you know...
Bad form!
The director should have found the guts to stop the production and send the students out, failing thier requirement to attend. Those that behave like children should be treated accordingly.
Now there is the risk of more resentment because everyone is being made to attend a meeting because of the actions of a few idiots.
As for Lancey, we hope to extinguish your nastiness and progress as a race one of these days. Stop holding the rest of us back. Go drag your knuckles off into the sunset.

Oh, I dunno...:

...you tell me.
Funny that the WBC have never appeared behind the goal, 'John 3:16'-esque with one of their placards, whenever an extra point/field goal is kicked, hmmmmmm...?! Can't be due to them being banned from stadiums by the NFL, not to my knowledge anyway. Nah, no hypocrisy on Freddie-boy & co's part, nosiree. [/hyper-sarcasm]
Oh, please. American football is the second most homoerotic thing on television (the first being professional wrestling).
As for the last sentence, Lancey obviously doesn't know what the hell he's talking about... but it's FR, so it's just par for the course.
Twofer or Trifecta?
Does the supposition that they were forced and that there are agendas regarding 'studies' departments constitute a conspiracy theory?
It's racist, that's plain but Free Republic is essentially where Klansman can be in the closet but still say eveything you expect of one.
Well, shit. I was desperately clinging to some small faith in humanity, there...
Not that I'm defending the team's actions (now that I'm no longer clueless as to what the Hell they were, I feel pretty free to condemn them), but they can at least be chalked up to dumb college jock peer pressure. Not that that's an excuse, but it's a bit better than defending those actions after the fact. At least some kid on the team came to his senses and apologized the next day, whereas the OP will likely harbour his, er, special viewpoint for some time to come.
I would just like to put out there that perhaps mandating the football team's attendance at the performance of The Laramie Project might not have been a wise move (I also find such schemes morally wrong, but that's a separate discussion). Numerous studies have indicated that mandatory sensitivity training of this sort actually serves to decrease tolerance, so frankly, I'm (pleasantly) surprised that things didn't get even further out of hand. That said, the actions of the Ole Miss football players were indefensible; I hope they're proud of ruining the performance for everyone else.
The players were apparently there on academic scholarships and were there because a class they were required to take involved seeing some or all of the theater productions.
One of the reasons I'm against scholarships for athletics, especially ones related to pro sports. Colleges are supposed to be institutes of learning. Why the fuck should college serve as the minor leagues for pro football/basketball/whatever and take away money and seats from students who deserve to be there for their academic achievements?
Confused?
