[America is languishing in basic scientific understanding behind most of the rest of the developed world. Doesn't that bother you?]
Yes, it does. The evolutionists (well, liberals in general) have had (almost all of) the schools for the last 70 years and this is the result. Don't blame us.

Yeah in six years of fundie control of our school system you have managed to fuck up all 70 years of educational advancements with your stupid abstinance non-sex ed, religious based faux US history, and religious dogma taught as science.
That's right...the "evolutionists" are the reason why America's scientific understanding is behind most of the other developed nations. It could not be that the creationists assailing them, and science, and education in general, are the problem, now could it?
This is insane, even if he feels that 'the evolutionists' are ruining his country he still surely can't blame them for his country 'lagging behind the rest of the developed world'.
The very fucking issues we're suggesting the U.S. lags behind in are understanding the theory of Evolution and 'liberal' issues such as personal Freedom. Even if you hate those things you'd have to admit that the rest of the developed world is far more accepting of those things than your country is. You should either feel like you've managed to keep your country clean of those evil things that have infested the rest of the world or you should admit that your irrational fear of knowledge has held your country back.
And they have also done the same in Europe, Canada and Japan. America is the only industrialised country, together with Turkey, where the theory of evolution is disputed.
Old Collin here does realise that those countries in the developed world which surpas the US in scientific understanding all teach evolution in schools, right?
Stupid question. I should know by now these fundies can't see outside of the borers of their own country.
You do realise you're one of the few (if not the only) first world country that seriously argues the veracity of such things as the theory of evolution?
I went to a catholic high school for Ilúvatar's sake, and the friar in charge of our religious classes held that both evolution and the big bang were undeniable, but that something must have caused them, and that thing was God.
Yet, the school boards are dominated by ignorant fundamentalists. Imagine that.
You would not believe the process a school book has to go through before approval.

You just logic bombed!
The drop in scientific knowledge is directly related to Fundamentalist Christianity. This is documented as the Bible Belt has the worst showing, and it's worse then that, the Math, history and literacy levels are astoundingly dismal down there also.
It's decades of not only telling the flock that science is a plot of dishonesty but also "American Exceptionalism" history rewrites and a demonizing of all knowledge as "worldly" and to be avoided.
Don't pretend you don't. Failing the little bit of evolution teaching there actually is wouldn't show such a margin, the overall, seperated by genre figures show the Bible-Belt not to be just anti-evolution but anti-education.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
