Calvin (flexing in front of a mirror in just his underpants): "Made in God's own image, yes sir!"
Hobbes: "God must have a goofy sense of humor."

"in the bible it says God made man in his own image"
Most theologians interpret this to mean that "in his own image" means that man is a thinking, sentient being, not that we physically resemble him. In other words, even though we have bodies like animals, we resemble god because we can think. At least some of us can. However, FAIL on your part.
"In the old days there weren't magazines so people didn't know they were not very pretty"
People knew how they looked. They could see themselves reflected in water, and mirrors were used as long ago as ancient Egypt, so FAIL on your part again.
Third, fashion magazines could be the cause of atheism? Dafuq?

In the old days there weren't magazines so people didn't know they were not very pretty and maybe that could explain why atheism is increasing.
Before magazines, nobody gave a moment's thought to beauty:

Erm, no. The Bible is a stronger cause for atheism than fashion magazines could ever be.
What image did God use to make woman? image

Dissatisfaction with one's appearance? That can't be it. I, myself, for example, am exceptionally handsome.

I'm sure atheism has been around longer than fashion magazines, or longer than mirrors, for that matter. Funny, the last time I looked at a fashion mag was BEFORE I became an atheist.

I came to Atheism as an 8 year old. To the best of my knowledge I'd never seen a fashion magazine. It was the illogic nature and sheer ridiculous nature of theism that made me an Atheist. Mind you, the unbelievable honesty of a vicar that said that there was no proof for God, only faith, put an end to any doubt.

Far more likely to lead me to Christianity.
Many times have I glanced at a fashion magazine and said, "Good God! What is she wearing ?"

They still had eyes, dumbass. They could see the people around them and they could see their own fucking reflection. I know it's difficult but try -- just try -- rubbing two or three brain cells together when this kind of shit floats through your brain-to-mouth canal.
And they say there's no such thing as a stupid question...

How wronf you are. There were plenty of periodicals. Sure, many were more cerebral, like La Follette's Weekly and McClure's , but there was an ample supply of red meat for sex-hungry viewers.

Holy mother of non-sequiturs; this nonsense is completely irrelevant to why there is an increase in atheism. In fact this refusal to think critically is why some people are turned off faith.
How are we supposed to choose our clothing then if fashion magazines, and presumably adverts too, are immoral? God has an odd hatred for nudity now that its become more prudish since the Garden of Eden, so are we supposed to have the clothes made ourselves? Not everyone has the time to do that, so is God's answer to have identical clothing for everyone regardless of age, taste, or weight? How conformist!

Wow. This is possibly the stupidest explanation for the rise of non-belief that I've ever encountered.
Fashion mags are only good for rolling joints, lining the bird cage, or to pass time in waiting rooms.
I don't need to worry about being pretty; I'm Titantic-era Kate Winslet 2.0.

And as the 1950s are ancient history to some Americans...:

'Being in the nude isn`t a disgrace unless you`re being promiscuous about it. After all, when God created Adam and Eve, they were stark naked. And in the Garden of Eden, God was probably naked as a jaybird too!'
-Bettie Page
...who became a born-again Christian after her modelling career; not until the resurgence of her popularity in the 1980s, even as a feminst icon, as she effectively blazed the trail for the Sexual Revolution before then, via the fetish -oriented photoshoots she did with Irving Klaw, so I'm afraid that Bettie Page represents a worse -than paradox for you.
The title of the 'article' included in the above magazine being the least of your problems. Bettie certainly was; even after her conversion.
She certainly had her fair share of lovers during her modelling career; she had no problem with having sex ; even though the men at the photoshoots/camera clubs always treated her with respect , and never propositioned her once. Like I say: a feminist icon indeed. A proto-Madonna, perhaps? She was in control, and lived life as she saw fit. And during that time in the early-mid-late 1950s, she had a ball!

You will notice model men resemble movie star leading men who resemble many depictions of Jesus.
So no,

Could fashion magazines be the cause of atheism?
Could dirty socks be the cause of earthquakes?
Could Smurfs be the cause of post-nasal-drip?
Could mirrors be the cause of peppercorns?

                "
No.
"in the bible it says God made man in his own image. When atheists look in the mirror and see what they look like maybe they don't think much of God at all. "
