Yes, I'm afraid of this example, and every single American who isn't a psycopath should be
Uganda is the perfect example of why we can't let fundies get the power, they would just advocate mass murders from Day 1 if nobody can stop them
MODERN Nation PROSPERED by God?
Uganda is a backwards third-world hellhole of poverty, brutality, war & superstition! There's little modern about it! China & India are far more modern than UGANDA!
If this is a religious fundy zealot's idea of an enlightened, prosperous, peaceful, happy, uber-modern, 21st Century society, I'd HATE to see what their idea of an oppressive, backwards, primitive, impoverished society must be.
I feel so bad for those folks in Uganda, especially the women/girls, children & LGBT people!
@His4Life:
I have no idea why you still come here. You're not even funny anymore.
After all, cheering someone who brutally murders people simply for being different is so very Christ-like. /eyeroll
You're either a troll or sociopath. Take your pick.
You know, his4life (I intenionally lower case you name, as you are not His), people used to say the same to slavecatchers....you know...."go get 'em!". It was civilized then and it is not civilized now.
But we do know where you and perkins fall on the scale....and that is always good to know.
Uganda, a modern example of a nation prosered by God? And northern Europe, nations way outstriping Uganda, prospered by reason and fairness.
"What if US got a law that mandated that children who disobey their parents must be killed? Somehow, I doubt this guy would be right there to defend Biblical values."
I wouldn't be so sure about that; considering that Charles Fuqua has advocated a lesser version of that law (whereby parents only have the option to have their disobedient children killed, instead of being forced to do it).
Looks like he's trying to deny this:

"If you want to get the press's attention, just say the word 'Uganda' and wait for the firestorm," Perkins said, perhaps alluding to his real intent in making the tweet. "For years, the African nation has been condemned for its severe laws criminalizing homosexuality. Despite allegations to the contrary, FRC has never supported that policy or any policy that imposes the death penalty on homosexuals. What we do oppose is the suggestion that gay and lesbian acts are universal human rights."
Uganda, prospered by God, has three and a half times the number of deaths from HIV/AIDS* than the wicked United States, even though it only has 11% of the US's population.
*transmitted in the overwhelming number of cases by heterosexual sex and by infected mothers giving birth to infected children
Originally the bill proposed the death penalty for "aggravated homosexuality." There's nothing modern or prosperous about targeting and executing innocent citizens.
I'd say the Republicans can't get more despicable and heartless, but they always prove they can sink a little lower.
Then why don't you move to Uganda?
Oh, that's right, because they don't have enough people with disposable income to support you and your bullshit.
@jss
yes they live in filthy hovels, amid qualor and starvation but they are blessed spiritually by the loving hand of God himself.
Would you rather live in cleanliness and good food while being spiritually adrift ?
/ yes this was meant as sarcasm /
So a nation in deep poverty, way behind as far as living conditions and technology, overrun by terrorist religious (redundant, I know) organizations that run around raping people with impunity (children even!), is a nation "prospered" by god? Unsurprising, the religious are quite depraved. Just so long as they're in charge they think everything's OK, no matter how badly everyone around them is suffering.
And everything that has been said about the cretin His4life's ever-evident lust for blood has already been said.
If Uganda is an example of a nation leading in "repentance," then I'll go for a nation with the least amount of repentance, thank you very much.
So which nation has the second-highest amount of repentance? Jamaica, I'm sure, would also be high on that list since they're known for killing gay people, though it's not state-sanctioned like it is in Uganda.
@The Crimson Ghost
The other Anthony Perkins' most famous character was less crazy than this guy.
Not to mention the other Anthony Perkins was also very gay. Or, considering the track record of anti-gay evangelicals, should I say he was "ALSO very gay"?
You're not actually allowed to call what they're doing backward. Because the Internet Outraged say it's racist.
More important to avoid offending than to actually do something, I guess.
@Troll4Life: From one Black person to another: You disgust me. You are a douche of the highest order, and you need to go away. Forever.
That being said, we are "afraid" of innocent people being killed over a book of fairy tales. If Uganda is "prospering", I'd like to see them in decline...
"A nation prospered by God?"
Another day, another English phrase butchered by fundies.
Yes, killing off large swathes of your population because you don't like what they do in their own bedrooms sure sounds like prosperity.
Decent people are upset that Ugandan Pres is leading his nation in murder and hatred, afraid of a modern example of a nation "doing God's work"*.
Did Uganda also "prosper" during the reign of Idi Amin? The current president seems to be of the same stock as Mr Amin.
*Sorry for the Godwin.
Wait, so this guy publicly admits that he used "Uganda" to get more hits?
People are dying, you dickhole!
Um...
People will be KILLED for being gay if this passes! Are you aware of that, Tony?
If you are, you are one sick, SICK human being.
@Skatepunk: and when it happens, Perkins and all those like him will tell people they're absolutely shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, that this could have happened, since as everyone KNOWS, they don't actually want homosexuals harmed and never did. If pressed, they'll do one of two things:
(1) they'll (quietly and tepidly) denounce it from the pulpit, or:
(2) say that we simply can't allow ourselves to interfere in another culture's affairs (conveniently forgetting that they themselves helped draft the legislation and helped them push it into law), and that this is something the Ugandans will simply have to work out for themselves.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
