[Because there is no such thing as a Christian deconvert]
i believe we Christian have an "edge" that the atheists don't have...they argue with us against God using their "knowledge" of what they have gathered from science textbooks growing up though school....well, a lot of us Christians have read these textbooks also, but our edge is that we read our Bible also, so we've seen the issue from both sides, unlike atheists who only know what they've heard....

As someone who has read a lot of "mythology" in my spare time, I must have the biggest edge of them all. I've seen the issue from 43 different sides (Greeks, Vikings, Celts, Japanese, Aztecs, etc.).
There's a difference between "After reading all the evidence supporting evolution, as well as all the evidence supporting the Bible- I can understand why people can believe this, but I still don't believe that it's the case" and "Evolution? The bible said it didn't happen. Science? God is knowledge- why do we need anything else? Capitalization and decent arguments? God is the only thing that needs to be capitalized, and he needs no argument."
See.... major difference here. (FYI- I'm not saying the first one is soully from atheists, a Christian could say the same thing.)
I'm with ez-c on this one.
I've not only read the Bible better than most Christians I know, I've also read the Quran better than most Muslims. I've also read mythologies from ancient Japan, China, Russia (orient and occident), the middle east, samplings of the geographic US regions, Inuit, Aztec, Incan, most of the well known European stuff, some Eqyptian and Nubian, and a couple other minor areas giving me a pretty broad range of information.
I've also taken a pretty heavy number of theology and philosophy classes, plus I read philosophy in my spare time (I enjoy mental challenges, and it's actually pretty fascinating if you're into that sort of stuff).
And after all this, I am a strong atheist. That should be a good sign.
So tell me, "This life," how much studying have you done into the philosophical and theological ramifications of your own faith, in addition to the obvious and rigorous logical evaluation you say you apply to your religion like us atheists do?
Huh, it was my impression that many atheists became such because they DID read the Bible. Like Asimov said, "Properly read, the Bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived."
"unlike atheists who only know what they've heard...."
Aside from the total stupidity of the rest of his post, I'd like to know if anyone else understands this part at all. If atheists "only know what they've heard" by reading textbooks, and christians have read textbooks + 1 more book, then how does that mean that christians know more than "what they've heard?"
Wait, what the hell am I doing? I'm trying to analyze almost pure stupidity! Help, I think I've been irradiated!
Oh, sit down, sonny, you are way out of your league. I've read the bible over and over and over. Not just the happy-jack parts they preach in church - all of it. Concerning the bible, I've read histories, archeology, comentaries, liberal Xian views, Fundie Xian views, Jewish views, atheist views, and I've come out of it as big a born-again, evangelical, hard-core atheist as you can imagine. I feel certain that my bible knowledge is superior to any teenage, Myspace dork. Many of us atheists became atheists *because* we read the bible.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
