I have one question for all you Atheists out there.
If there is no god, why do you need a word to say there is none?

A question to you idiots, if we Catholics are not Christians, why do you say holy smoke with so much frequency?, or if the gods in the ancient Greece didn´t exist, why is the late princess of Wales called Diana?, or why do you call Hell the Avern?
If evolution does not exist, why do you have a name for claiming that there is just the way god created things?
Theists came up with the word and it has since spread throughout the population. When I told my parents I didn't believe in their god or any god I didn't even know the word existed. They introduced it to me by saying something along the lines of; "What are you an atheist now?" It defines the basics of my beliefs so why shouldn't I use it? When people ask me what I believe in I can go into a long winded answer about how I don't believe higher powers exist, but instead I can just say I'm atheist and they understand without an extended conversation. Out of all the things wrong with social standards I'm not going to take up a cause against the word atheist especially when I'm sarcastically tired of people calling potato chips potato chips and I absolutely need to get everyone to understand that they need to use the word 'pencil' to describe that food item from now on.
In that case, J.K. Rowling's Hogwart's School must be real. Also Lewis Carroll's Wonderland, the ghosts of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," and all of the creatures and events in Star Trek and Star Wars, not to mention innumerable other fantasy and sci-fi stories over the ages -- not to mention every god, hero, and monster in every mythos ever created.FICTION. SO. There is some indication that curses carved in runes by the Norse and Saxons were expected to be efficacious merely because they were put into physical form by being written down.
And even now, many people pray with the full expectation of their prayers being fully and literally fulfilled by God, as if he were some kind of cosmic waittress -- a belief that Carl Sagan bluntly counters with the obvious observation that "wishing doesn't make it so." His reduction of the belief to these terms shows how utterly childish it is for people to still think this way; the belief is on par with a belief in the Easter Bunny. It's depressing to see anyone above the age of 8 still seeing it as true.

Oh, not this old chestnut again! It is as stupid and as annoying as the "if man evolved, why are there still monkeys" thing...phlogiston was shot down when Lavoisier demonstrated how combustion works, that doesn't mean that the vocabulary and concepts developped by the creators of said theory were suddenly magically erased from the human language/mind.

Isn't the correct spelling, 'Mesquite'?
The word "God", isn't exclusive of Yahweh, there are hundreds if not thousands of other gods from many other cultures, the word is just a definition of some "higher entity" that is (or are)directly dependent on specific cultures. Refusing to believe in a god doesn't imply the existence of one, since god is just a man-made definition. Not to mention that there ISN'T actually one... or many for that matter.
Well, I don't believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster, so I am an aflyingspaghettimonsterist. So there you have it, a new word to denote a disbelief in something that doesn't exist.
I have one question for all you right-wing Fundamental ist Christians out there:
If you're secure in your beliefs, why the fuck should you care about word one of what we Atheists say about there not being a 'God'?
Just ask any Quaker, Amish/Mennonite, Unitarian Universalist, or any Christian commenter here in FSTDT. They're not as precious about their beliefs as you lot are. They're secure in theirs .

God is a title. Not a name. Christians used the word God to avoid saying the name Jahovah or Ja mon (Rastafarians gave him a nickname, now thats a personal relationship none of you fundies will ever have)
You call your God: God
