See what liberalism and allowing it's spread into the schools and homes has caused! They try to claim that spanking is abuse. I think that NOT spanking is abuse, since they don't grow up right!

I vote green party, i am sceptical of mass media, i hate bush, I guess i'm a "liberal".
Problem with corporal punishment is it's usually doled out when the parent is angry, the worst time to do something like that. Some kids do learn that way, but it isn't many and a more open dialogue between parent and child can cut down on the need for it.
Having been the recipient of such treatment, all it taught me was how to be contrite in apologizing for physically abusing somebody in a moment of anger, that people can change if they get therapy and counselling, and forgiveness for people who are truly sorry.
As any good Skinnerian could tell you, negative feedback training really is very powerfully reinforcing... for the trainer. Trainers punish and if the behavior changes, the trainer attributes it to the punishment and becomes a more eager punisher. The feedback loop is much tighter for the punisher than the punishee.
Children are forced to compromise their superior native morality and ethics because of idiots like this. They learn to lie simply to avoid the next spanking. They learn to feel guilt; then, fear of the next spanking; and eventually, hate for the spanker.
It looks like a slippery slope, but we can see "good christian values" developing here.
I was spanked on occasion and it basically taught me that I mustn't get caught doing bad stuff. Also, since the punishment itself was often worse than the things I had done (like, being hurt physically for anoying the hell out of my parents) I developed a strong disrespect for any rules, so basically all kids I knew who were never spanked were better behaved than me. Just my personal experience.
