Replacing DNA is not quite the same as rewriting software. They have to pump in as much DNA as they replace, so a couple of teaspoons. Did the shot have a couple of teaspoons inside it? And they have to inject it directly into the affected cell. Did you ever hear of anyone getting stabbed 30 trillion times?
It only really works to stab a fertilized egg, once, and that affects the organism it makes. Can’t really do it to an adult.
