There are between 2 3 billion Muslims, if you count those in North Africa, the Middle East, India, the Indonesian archipelago, China, and the central Asian republics of the old Soviet Union. Isolating about one-half of the world’s land mass will be a tough job, not to mention sorting through 2 -3 billion people to find “the bombers and their support system.”

CousinTed: Didn't the 1950s version of War of the Worlds also feature the U.S. army attempting the use of an "atom bomb" to destroy the invading Martians? I haven't seen the film in quite a few years, but I could swear that they had that in there. I'm not sure if that counts as an attempt to "cure an infestation," though. Ironically, of course, the Martians should have thought ahead on that very topic.
First of all, attacking Muslims will not make them give up their religion. You didn't see any Christians convert to Islam after 9/11, did you? Likely not. In fact, some Christians claimed that 9/11 reinforced their faith; sure, it was done by Muslims in the name of their god, but one of the hundreds of crossbeams from the World Trade Center fell in an upright position they claim this is a magical sign that their god was with them, although apparently too busy to do anything. (Sort of like Bush!)will be at war with Muslims as a whole. You're not going to like that.
Although they think we're already at war with all Muslims, I think they'd notice a change if a sixth of the world's population suddenly declared that America is evil and must be destroyed.
