Whoever lives, will die, and right now that is about seven billion people. Sinkholes, however, are about karst topography and what happens when you suck too much water out of the aquifer.

He's doing it by causing the ground to sink into a hole. While this does provide a hole for placing the dead bodies, it also prevents the grave from being covered over, because the dirt is now under the hole.
In short, your god sucks at gravedigging. He's about as effective as groundwater slowly dissolving limestone through natural processes.
