Job is an Old Testament story, so it doesn't involve Christianity.

So is creation theory, most of the laws you idiots use to oppress people you don't agree with, and the 10 commandments.
Guess none of that shit counts.
"For verily I [Jesus] say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." (Mat. 5:18)
Rafe seems to think the NT was written before Jesus.
How is this fundie? And ironically Job was one of my favorite books in the bible. At least it admits that life sucks, God lets it happen to test our obedience to Him, Satan is really his D.A., and there's nothing we can do about it.
Ah yes, Jack the webcomic. Home of some of the most convoluted theology I've ever seen.
All the same, not that fundie.
This isnt fundie at all because it makes perfect sense...it doesnt involve christianity because its before the new testament. No reason to read into it any more than that.
Edit: The old testament is also part of the jewish bible and was written before christianity...therefore it isnt christian.
And not to mention he says that in the rest of the quote which was removed
the whole thing reads
quote/ Job is an Old Testament story, so it doesn't involve Christianity.
Then again, maybe you disagree with Judaism too. /quote
Calling this fundy is really quite a stretch.
@ Terf, yep, not fundie and overall valid.
Christianity is not applicable in this case.
So, if they're so prone to not involving Christianity, then why does Christianity keep all the Old Testament books around? Certainly it would save on printing costs if they ignored the at least 39 (more if you're Catholic or Orthodox or whatever) books there.
Yet you people are constantly quoting it when you want to denounce homosexuality and other sinful things. You want the 10 commandments plastered all over the place.
Just another person editing the bible to back up their own version of Christianity.
@somebody
Yes it is but the point he was making seems to be that it wasnt part of the modern (OT/NT) bible and doesnt involve christianity.
This comment should be deleted...it was taken out of context and is a perfectly valid point from the middle of a conversation that was meant for clarity
im not playing devils advocate i just dont want us to become too much like them :P
Huh? I'm on that forum and have seen the guy's other posts, and Rafe ain't no fundie.
His near unhealthy obsession with the character "Central" and friendly relationship with the author is a big clue...
ALL RIGHT
STORY'S CHANGED EVERYONE!
God is not mysterious anymore, if he shits on you, it's perfectly okay to lose your faith.
I'm glad you guys have finally over all this trials and obstacles and "God works in mysterious ways" stuff and accepted that He either hates you all or doesn't exist.
The story of Job might not be exactly "christian", but it's something to pay attention to.
After all, this guy was a good man, goes through a lot of tough crap and *still* maintains his faith. A lot of these hypocritical fundies use God as a damn crutch and always pin the blame on God when something goes wrong. But no, this guy Job? He just keeps on believing and doesn't curse him for shit going wrong. Perhaps you should remember that next time you step in a pile of horseshit.
@ Terf
I totally understand your desire to keep us more intellectual and less nitpicky, I'm with you, but I think you're misplaced here.
When magical boy came down he didn't say "the hell with all the old stuff" He reaffirmed quite a bit of it. He added, he edited, but overall, it was still important and relevant.
Saying the old testament doesn't count because it was part of Judaism is like saying the Bill of Rights doesn't matter because it was written before the Civil War.
@Somegie
But thats not the point that hes making here...my opinion was that the comment is having too much made of it..Hes replying to someone who claimed that the bible is entirely christian
Quote/ Oh we wont, but as much as I disagree with Christianity, there are some great stories in the bible. After the arc is done, go read it. /quote
and so he replys with the quote above and the important part that was missed out:
Quote/ Job is an Old Testament story, so it doesn't involve Christianity.
Then again, maybe you disagree with Judaism too.
I wonder where calling God Punjab came from? Maybe Little Orphan Annie /Quote
Stating that the bible isnt entirely christian. Thats what the quote means...there is nothing fundy here at all.
If all the Fundy Christians ditched the Old Testament, at least they'd never be able to use the Bible to justify child abuse ever again. However, it might make it harder for Atheists and Agnostics to mock them.
The Old Testament doesn't involve Christianity?!? In the gospels, Jesus quotes the OT on several occasions!
Oh wait, I forgot, the gospels don't involve Christians either.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
