[Why did a judge rule that the National Day of Prayer was unconstitutional?]
Because some atheist that "doesn't believe in God" has to shut out any reference to this "non-existent God", so he can fool himself into believing that there "is no God"!image
Is it not interesting that so many will try to stop others from doing what hurts them not, yet enriches them not either, when they achieve their goal?image
No wonder God calls them fools! Seems a pretty apt description.
Makes as much sense as me trying to get my neighbor to refrain from getting up early just because I like to sleep late.
If I succeed, I have not done myself a bit of good, but neither is the early riser harming me by getting up early; so what's the point????image
I personally think it's an attempt to ease that gnawing feeling that there "IS A GOD ", but "I don't want to know about Him, 'cause I'll be obligated to admit that I don't hold the reins!"

So, you're in favour of not interfering in other people's affairs if it doesn't concern you?
Even if there is a "god", it sure as hell ain't Santa Claus sitting on a cloud playing a harp...
"Makes as much sense as me trying to get my neighbor to refrain from getting up early just because I like to sleep late."
You're kind of getting it, only in reverse. Pray til your knees bleed for all we care, just don't force others to do so.
And if I asked you to play a nice tune on a banjo in praise of Banjo the Clown, God of Puppets, you would yell that you don't believe in Banjo. And you wouldn't play a song in praise of Banjo. And if I got government backing to make you play a song for Banjo, you'd be pissed, because I'd be forcing my mistaken beliefs on you.
Do you see how this works??
"If I succeed, I have not done myself a bit of good, but neither is the early riser harming me by getting up early; so what's the point?"
This is a very interesting analogy, considering how often and how loudly I have been told I am GOING TO HELLLLL for daring to sleep in on Sunday mornings.
Freedomnut is no fan of freedom, except for brainless, unthinking RaptureRetards & other mindless Christian fundies. If you don't think as he does you're not entitled to be free; he & his ilk are not only entitled to but have the DUTY to harass, persecute, bully & imprison anyone unlike them. Freedomnut needs more than a name change; he needs a brain transplant (oh wait, they don't do those).
We don't give a damn if you pray. We wish you would pray around the clock and stay off the streets. It's not the day of prayer that's offensive, it's the government endorsement.
Oh, and that gnawing feeling? That was the damned burrito I had for lunch.
One person complaining doesn't change stuff like that. Millions of people complaining does, however.
"No wonder God calls them fools!"
When did God say that? Hell, when did God come down and say "Yeah, atheists are fools"? And why reveal his existence just to say that?!

"The fool hath said in his heart that there is no God."
What Fundies seem to miss, however, is that no one wants to listen to their sanctimonious bullshit. It's quite annoying to be called a fool by someone who can't tell you what the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics actually IS or spell the word "Genesis."
Matthew 5:22
Have a nice day!
I'm pretty sure there isn't a god. I know I'm not in control of everything. I know that I am, in fact, in control of very little. This only bothers me to the extent that it makes me want to control more.
WOW, THAT WAS HORRENDOUSLY PAINFUL AND I THINK I ALMOST DIED. SURELY THERE MUST BE A GOD. THANK YOU, FREEDOMNUT, FOR FREEING ME FROM MY SELF-IMPOSED PRISON. I AM FOREVER IN YOUR DEBT.
Separation of Church and State, moron. If you have a national Day of Prayer, you must also have a national Day of Rain-dance.
Is it not interesting that so many will try to stop others from doing what hurts them not, yet enriches them not either, when they achieve their goal?
Oh, yes. People will try to stop others from not believing in God.
Let me not believe in any gods, and let your neighbor get out of bed when she wants. Leave us alone, m'kay?
Well I'm not religious and I don't believe in any supernatural deities but I'm quite happy for others to believe what they want as long as they don't do any harm. In fact, I'm more than happy for people to believe in gigantic ethereal mansion entrance halls, for instance, and I particularly approve of the various gnashing and raging orders that are so prevalent. And who could dislike the slavish cult members whose lives revolve around rabid ancient textual translations, (and modern political shenanigans), and who cheer each other on to ever greater feats of the most immense stupidity and praise each others doltishness wholeheartedly?
To bad those people at RR have never actually read their bibles...

To wit:
Matthew 6:5 - 7
5. And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites [are]: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen [do]: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Good Christians are not to pray publicly, nor are they to pray for the same thing over and over and over.
How many times must it be said? Do whatever you want with religion, preach as loudly and as publicly as you want, but when it comes to government religion is off limits. Why is this so damn hard to understand?
I personally think it's an attempt to ease that gnawing feeling that there "IS A GOD", but "I don't want to know about Him, 'cause I'll be obligated to admit that I don't hold the reins!"
It's more like, "I know there's a monster under your bed, but what does it have to do with me?"
It isn't that you believe there is a god that we find offensive. It isn't the fact your think prayer is effective we care about. It's the fact that a secular government spends our tax dollars proclaiming your faith that we object to.
If your churches want to declare a National Day of Prayer, we could care less. When it is the secular government of the United States that does it, it's a slap in the face to anyone who doesn't share your beliefs.
"Makes as much sense as me trying to get my neighbor to refrain from getting up early just because I like to sleep late.
If I succeed, I have not done myself a bit of good, but neither is the early riser harming me by getting up early; so what's the point????"
You have just destroyed your own arguments against homosexuality, gay marriage, gay hospital visitation rights, abortion, feminism, all other religions, Twilight, Harry Potter and evolution. Rapture Ready no longer has a reason to exist. Move along, nothing to see here.
"No wonder God calls them fools!"
Psalm 14:1: 'The fool says in his heart, “There is no God'
The wise man says it with his mouth.
"I personally think it's an attempt to ease that gnawing feeling that there "IS A GOD", but "I don't want to know about Him, 'cause I'll be obligated to admit that I don't hold the reins!"
Atheism is the constant challenge to those who believe in a 'God' to prove that such exists. The onus is upon you to prove he exists after all; we Atheists don't have to lift a finger. But if you can't, then that only proves that a 'God' doesn't exist. All you have to do is prove us wrong, that's all.
That, and the fact we have total control of our lives. Especially thinking for ourselves.
Now who's 'holding the reins'?
'There is something feeble and a little contemptible about a man who cannot face the perils of life without the help of comfortable myths.'
-Bertrand Russell
"So he can fool himself into believing that there 'is no god'"
I didn't do a whole bunch of mental gymnastics. I merely thought: "Wait the bible was written by man. Oh shit. I guess the bible might not be true." I then looked at nature around me and saw no evidence of a God at work. Why would I dedicate my life to something that is unseeable, inaudible, and intangible?
How do you feel about having the Government endorse the National Day of Reason, whereby Americans of all faiths are urged to stay away from Churches Mosques and Synagogues?
This is also allowed under your interpretation of the first amendment.
You know, it's strange how Fundies ascribe motives to their enemies that their enemies deny. it's as if Fundies believe 'everybody is a liar'.
Yet honest people tend to believe in the veracity of others.
Makes as much sense as me trying to get my neighbor to refrain from getting up early just because I like to sleep late.
If I succeed, I have not done myself a bit of good, but neither is the early riser harming me by getting up early; so what's the point????
Fundies fail at analogies. Let me help you out here. Okay, let's keep the early rising neighbor, but in this case s/he's demanded that the city council make a "Wake everyone up at 5:00 am" Day. Now, I don't care if the neighbor wants to wake up at 5:00 am, but s/he has no business waking everyone else up at 5:00 am. Got it?
But if the Hindus were to have a nationlized day of prayer the Christians would run around screaming about the "END DAYZ!"
You don't need a day for the government to recgonize your prayer. You do it every fucking sunday!
"Makes as much sense as me trying to get my neighbor to refrain from getting up early just because I like to sleep late."
You pretty much do that. You try and force your religion in everyone just because you need to beleive in something.
The Constitution was a plot devised by atheist fools.....yes, right. Do you have any idea how lucky you are to have it, and do you know who usually bleats the loudest when they feel (usually wrongly) their rights under it have been infringed? Exactly.
And wrap your head around the notion once and for all that "secular" is not a synoynm for "atheist." There is a difference, go look it up.
Oh? I'm sorry, I must have mised the part of the ruling where you were disallowed from praying. Because as I see it all the ruling said is that the government cannot sanction as day of RELIGIOUS prayer as it is not permitted to sanction religion. ANY religion.
And as for "try to stop others from doing what hurts them not," let me pose this to you. Yuo are there for your day of prayer, and an Imam comes to the front of the stage as the Islamic Call to Prayer is sounded. What would you do?
You'd shit a brick and scream persecution, demanding that they be silence. Immediately. Now let's say you drive by some little chael, and two men are walking out, arm in arm. What would you do?
Have a coronary on the spot, and start writing irate letters all the way up the line over how such an appaling display is against YOUR religion, and you should not have to stand for such a horrid display of sin. Funny how "Let us do what we want, as it doesn't directly affect you" only applies when it's you guys whining about getting your own way.
The original decision was overturned and the National day of Prayer continues to this day. Yet, as usual, the paranoid Christian American deludes themselves that they are a persecuted people, set their hair on fire, and start screaming...
... and never learn.
It would be so easy for these useless Christian fucks to just use the Internet to organize a National Day of Prayer WITHOUT the government's stamp of approval, assistance, etc., and WITHOUT using courthouses and statehouses as a backdrop. It would be simple, and Constitutional. But then it would not necessarily help bolster their idiotic notion that this nation is somehow "officially Christian." I also hate the way they make these NDP observances sound sort of non-denominational when they talk about it, but you have to swear allegiance to Jeebus before you can speak or help out in any way at most of the official NDP events. Fuck these assholes.
Probably because the judge actually read the constitution.
So, you won't try to get your neigbor to marry a woman, when he wants to marry a man, then? Good!!!
Which god is it that "IS"? There are thousands of them. I know a lot about the Abrahamic God/Allah/YWHW; my country was a Christian Nation when I started school, so I had Christian studies every week during my first three years in school.
I knew it was RR when I saw all the smileys.
Confused?
