Wow . . . Idolatry Exists . . . Never Knew
Wow ... this confirms what Christians and Jews have known for ... say ... ABOUT 3000 years!!! LOL.
Idolatry is humanly constructing gods to serve your own purposes. Christians worship a crucified God, something which defies idolatry and this study.

A crucified god who happens to be able to wipe your 'sins' away...
A pretty lazy god if you ask me, guess even that one reflects your opinions. >_>
It's those OTHER guys who do that. That's why you go on all the time about faith in the doctrinal and dogmatic religions of atheism and evilution, getting shoved down your throats by close-minded zealots with an agenda, right? Repent, religous idolators!
Idolatry is humanly constructing gods to serve your own purposes.
Yeah, like the Christian fundies who have convinced themselves Jesus was an anti-socialist free marketer, the Bible condemns abortion, people who vote for Democrats are going to hell and God is more worried about the sex of the person you're sleeping with than whether you love your neighbor.
Can someone explain how a god can be killed by being nailed to two wooden planks?
Must not be a very powerful god...
But then again, the biblical Jesus is just an invention anyway.
Yea, no idolatry or god constructing going on there.
I'll bet Jim Smith isn't even your real name, is it?
Dead man on a stick isn't an idol? Then you wouldn't get upset if I pissed on one?
Oh, you would? Why am I not surprised.
"Idolatry is humanly constructing gods to serve your own purposes."
You mean like Christians have done in this country? Like the ones who talk about a vengeful, wrathful God who just happens to hate all the same things & people they happen to hate?
What is the difference between your crucified, resurrected god and say, Osiris, who was dismembered and returned to life?
Oh wait, I know--TEH BABBLE IS TROO BECUZ IT SAYS IT IS.

Dude, you're missing the point.
As for idols, haven't some of you fundies kind of made the bible into your idol?
To be fair, I think Smith is operating on the idea that only a minute fraction of humanity is masochistic. He doesn't see enough of humanity WANTING to make an idol that exalts suffering. But because the crucified Christ exalts his suffering (or at least seems to), he can't possibly be a creation of suffering-phobic humanity.
However, I would ask WHY you'd want anything to do with a god that doesn't share your ideals...Fear of punishment only goes so far.
But let me guess: you agree with everything God says, or, rather, he agrees with you. And Christians with different opinions on said matters also have god supporting them on the opposite side.
All irony and idolatry aside, let us reflect on the fact that Christians haven't known this for three thousand years. In fact, Christians cannot be said to have known ANYTHING for three thousand years, as Christ died fewer than TWO thousand years ago.
"Christians worship a crucified God, something which defies idolatry and this study."
Which explains perfectly why it's so easy to find two Christians with two totally contradictory views about what God wants.
I'll take Missing The Point for 1000, Alex.
errm, if you're including jews, isn't 3000 years a bit short?
And for that matter, if you're including christians, isn't 3000 years a bit long?
"Christians worship a crucified God, something which DEIFIES idolatry ..."
There, fixed it!
EDIT: Sorry, missed my name, it's Darwin.

A-... BUHHHH??? *passes breakerslion the cluebat* this person needs reason smacked into them. I believe Christians are just as guilty of "constructing a God to suit their purposes" more than anyone else out there... and thus they are Idolaters (sic?) by their own definition. So again... A-... BUHHH??? @.@
Confused?
