(On the recent Virgina Tech Shooting)

Just odd how these things all of a sudden happen after year 2000. Satan knows his time is short he will use these events to try to take away our right to have guns. I just don't believe bullying would result in someone doing this that may have been a factor, but what person has not been bullied in their life. Not everyone does this. It is sad what happened I pray for them, and their families. Eventually kids will think their life is more important than education, and just drop out of school. I know if I was at that school I wouldn't want to go back.

Everyone reacts differently. Some try to blend in so as not to stick out too much, some become anti-social, some (like me) start to feel like it's their fault and suffer from lack of self esteem for a good portion of their life, some are able to let the bullying bounce off of them, some confront their bullies, and some go insane and start shooting people. That you "just don't believe" it doesn't make it any less true but I already know that fundies are famous for ignoring the facts just because they refuse to believe them. And so instead of addressing the problem with real solutions you pawn it off on some supernatural being and the problem never gets addressed!

There is no practical purpose for a weapon that can fire full-auto. Even really bad hunters can't use them practically because you're more likely than not to ruin the meat. I actually support the right to bear arms. In case of total collapse of civilization or alien invasion or something, the existence of civilian arsenals or various sizes is a good thing. That whole militia concept is actually viable if America as it stands ever falls apart. Also, some people still actually hunt for food in this country. Poor, rural folks.

But for fuck's sake can we please do everything we can to limit the ease with which these circulate in our society which hasn't collapsed, and which can be efficiently oppressed by the government no matter what guns we're allowed to buy because they have tanks, planes, bombs, training, and a defense budget. Do not live in a fantasy world, here. Technology has marched on.

Because nothing at all interesting happened prior to 2000. It's not like there was a World War (or two) or anything like that.

If, by which you mean if handguns are illegal, then less people would be killed, I would say the old "only criminals would have handguns" rule would be in force. If you are trying to say that guns are legal in Japan, but nobody kills anyone, I would remind you that the Yakuza are still highly in control of the country and, at least in my neck of the USA, the people getting shot are 95% gang related and about 1% hunting accidents and (very sadly) 4% domestic violence, give or take. Take away the gangs and I'd say you'd have very few handgun deaths.

Yeah, why would constant torment and abuse from people whom you've never done anything to, throughout your formative years, while the people you trusted to help you stood by and did nothing, have any negative effect?

Not everyone does this.

No...Usually they just kill [i]themselves.[/i] This should tell you something: if enough kids are committing suicide due to bullying that there's a special term just for suicides caused by bullying, perhaps it's not just a part of a normal childhood, or "toughening kids up."

Satan in the Bible was pretty consistently pro education, pro freedom, and pro people living on earth as long as possible (didn't he kill like one person in the whole book? compare with gods multiple massacres). Yet he's the bad guy. All I can assume is that god has one hell of a pr guy.

So I'm confused as to whether this hippie would consider gun ownership good or bad. Liberty, very good, but shooting people, very bad. I'm thinking he'd be pretty anti gun. Maybe he'd allow rifles and shotguns for hunting under strict control, and handguns or automatic weapons would be nigh impossible to acquire legally. But hey, I'm fully aware I'm just doing what the Christians do and amazingly Satan appears to be in complete agreement with me. Maybe if he knew time were short before the craziness started he'd want to limit casualties when the shit hit the fan by removing firearms from idiots, though.

Which is why I personally embrace these concepts:

THE DEMIURGE: The vicious "God" of the Bible. The version of Yahweh/Elohim that is a vengeful fascist brute is an impostor. A false God. A complete phony.

Lucifer is a good guy who was unjustly maligned in the Bible & conflated with The Demiurge/Yahweh's crony, HaSatan. Lucifer is also a name for the planet Venus (androgynous or female, perhaps?). Jesus, Himself...interestingly enough...is called "The Bright Morning Star".

O.K., he didn´t exactly mention firearms ... but one would guess that he would suggest turning them into plowshares, too ;)

The "swords into plowshares" bit is actually in the Old Testament, but who's counting? ;-)

Interestingly enough, the disciples, i.e at least Peter, appear to have been armed. When Jesus was arrested prior to his execution, Peter attacked one of the high priest's servants, a man named Malchus, and cut off one of his ears with a sword. However, instead of sounding "charge" and battling his way to freedom, Jesus told Peter to put the sword back in it's sheath while he himself went off to relieve his martyr complex.
