[About an actual atheist church in the UK.]

I would LOVE to see this in the US. It would be perfect! That would confirm the fact that Atheism is indeed a religion (they have their own church and everything.) And since they are a religion with their own church, there would have to be a “separation of church and state.” Therefore, schools would have to stop teaching the ridiculousness of Evolution since that is one of the main beliefs of the Atheist/Humanist religion. Therefore the choice would have to be made, either allow creationism to be taught, or disallow evolution. You can’t play favorites on which religion is OK to teach, right?

Taxonomy of bats? Shape of the Earth? Heredity? Existence of magic? Cosmology? We can teach all these topics in a way that aligns with your religious beliefs if you get your way. Or we could stick with fact and reality.

So if we stop teaching evolution and science, perhaps when you get sick from the new evolved, antibiotic-resistant bacteria, you will have the wonderful opportunity to get sick and die a horrible death that could have been prevented had the latest generations of doctors been able to cure if they had been correctly taught science and evolution and had been actively working finding the cure. I'm sure you'll think it really 'ridiculous' then, too. See, bacteria don't give a shit about what you believe and will continue to evolve, regardless.

Me, I'm all in favor of science, evolution, medicine and research continuing exactly as they are, as their benefit to modern health and medicine is tremendous.

If this is what you really believe, if you EVER avail yourself of ANY modern medicine, hospitals, doctors, emergency-rooms, or anything related you are a hypocrite.

You could have an Atheist Church, in a tounge in cheek way only. It would never be accepted under the legal definition of religion as that requires a God, in Europe and North America,,,HOWEVER,, it would be a legal route to battle the tax-free status ( and govt maitainance subsidies) of American churchs, taxes fed to European churchs as unfair and prejudicial to unbelievers.

It's impossible to find how much this costs the taxpayers in the U.S, and Canada as it's truly off the books on the Land and Income taxes and unreported on the subsidies. Just ballparking church property though suggests billions on land taxes alone lost every year. The states claims 80% Christian, less than 50%in Canada and in both those stats they have large unafilliated numbers. The tax laws as they stand means the unbelievers are actually forced to support religion.

If an Atheist church became a watchdog and organized voice against this I'd be for it, a church of thought, reason, justice and an almost fanatical devotion to reality as it were.

One word: Irony

Irony. What many in the US (certainly 100% of all right-wing fundies) have no concept of. Now, look again at where that 'Atheist Church' is located: Britain.

The Honourable Judge John E. Jones III, whose decision in Kitzmiller vs. Dover in late 2005 spelled the end of the Creationists' educational agenda as a whole. And he's a Conservative Christian like you lot. 'Jones'. That's a Welsh name. Wales is part of Great Britain, where - as part of the National Curriculum - even 'Faith Schools' have to teach Evolution, if they're to continue to receive state funding; as in it's the law. No Kitzmiller vs. Dover required.

Wales is part of Britain. Like I say, the richest source of Irony here on Planet Reality. The Conservative Christian Judge John E. Jones III - Of Welsh ancestry - deciding for the plaintiffs in Kitzmiller vs. Dover.

For once, it's not the Irony Meters of we Atheists that are exploding.

And now you know why the 'Church of $cientology' has never been legally recognised as a religion (certainly a charity) by our Parliament, thus the Orgs etc here in the UK have to pay tax on the income from Auditing, Courses, sales of LRH's BS books etc.
