Protestants are called that because they protested against the Church's teachings and set up their own branch. Thus, "protest"ants, get it? That soon broke up into many tinier branches... each of these branches is called a denomination.

Anyone else notice there are a lot fewer Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, and Lutheran fundies than there are Southern American Baptist fundies? But when one of us non-Southern-American-Baptist Christians DOES say something fundie, it's really really really really really really fundie.
Does the name Martin Luther ring a bell? How about "sale of indulgences", "Spanish Inquisition", Papal infallability, and Aryan and Carthar Heresies(and massacres)? Catholic fundies are just as big a tools as Baptist ones(or Muslim ones)!
