Praying to someone who is dead is necromancy. Necromancy is divination. The bible says that folks who do that have familiar spirits. Interesting, huh?

From Rapture ready yet.
Who pray over dead bodies at the hospital, at the funeral home, at the grave, at the grave 20 years later.
People who believe the soul is gone at death, yet still pray days or years later.
And then there's the Jesus thing! He's only been dead for 2010 years
Praying to someone who is dead is necromancy
1) No, it's not.
2) This Jesus you pray to has been dead for two thousand years.
Necromancy is divination
No, it's not.
The bible says that folks who do that have familiar spirits. Interesting, huh?
No, not really.
You braindead, unthinking human-shape pile of waste product! Necromancy is its own school of magic, which is different from divination! How the flying fuck are you so ignorant that you don't understand something simply like that?
All I have to say is that when your house is attacked by goblins and you need to turn your recently dead uncle into a zombie to protect yourself, you better not reach for Detect Magic or Augury.
Praying to someone who is dead is the foundation of your religion. You are unbelievably stupid.
Also, necromancy is not divination. Necromancy is the magic of communion with the dead: Summoning ghosts or spectres, talking to those who have "passed on", raising the dead, etc. Divination is gaining knowledge (through magic in this context, but the verb divine is often used to describe natural acts): Predicting the future, uncovering deceit, learning anything, etc.
Some magic can be both. For example, Alison DuBois claims to talk to the dead, and that they give her information about the future. Then again, she's a liar and contemptible bitch.
The Bible says you have a familiar spirit? Any pets in your family?
...
BURN THE WITCH! BURN 'EM!
(and don't bother to weigh them against a duck first or anything)
It would be more interesting if you had any idea what you were talking about.
Necromancy is not praying to someone who is dead, but simply contacting someone who is dead. King Saul hired to witch of Endor to contact the ghost of the prophet Samuel: That was necromancy. To be fair, necromancy has generally been used for divination, that is finding information. You did get one thing right.
Familiars, however, are an entirely different branch of magic. A familiar is a spirit that acts as a go-between with the spirit world for a magician. Note this in this case the word "familiar" is a noun, not an adjective.
Now for the big question, how much of this is superstitious hokum? Bzzt! Sorry Chrys the correct answer was all of it. There is, in fact, no such thing as magic, but thanks for playing.
“Praying to someone who is dead is necromancy.”
No, it’s not. ‘-mancy’ is divination. ‘Necromancy’ is contacting the dead for information. The dream in Fiddler on the Roof (if it wasn’t just a big fib) would be an example, or when Saul had the witch summon ghosts. Any seance.
Asking someone in heaven to intercede on your behalf is just networking.
“Necromancy is divination.”
Yes. But that’s not invoking saints.
"The bible says that folks who do that have familiar spirits.”
The Bible says that the sky is a metal tent that rests on the ground. ‘Scuse me if i give less than a whole entire fuck.
"Interesting, huh?”
Not terribly.
Confused?
