[Fundies have been reacting to the news that Michigan has overturned its gay marriage ban.]
This is yet another state that has overturned the decision of the voters. How is this even lawful? The people vote, and that should be the final say. But voting is just a joke now. We, the people, are made to think we have a choice in the voting booth, but I don't believe we do. It's all a big charade. Bribery and fraud have sullied one of the only ways that we have to demonstrate our power and voice. The government once worked for us. Now, we are slaves to the government, with rights that are continuously taken away from us.
Whoever the demon prince is of the United States—let's call him Sam, but he prefers us to say "Uncle"—he's doing an amazing job of spreading the disease of lawlessness throughout our three branches of government. They're all his muppets, and every time I see one of them selling snake oil on TV with their brittle smiles and false words and monstrous arrogance, I want to be sick. Nancy Pelosi is a perfect example.

The tyranny of the majority!
Just because a large group of people have a certain opinion of a topic, doesn't mean the opinion is the right one.
Democracy without equal rights is not a democracy but a form of oligarchy!
We, the people, are made to think we have a choice in the voting booth, but I don't believe we do.
In the US, you can't vote to bypass the Constitution. You can vote to amend the Constitution, of course, but you can't vote to just ignore it.
So, on the one hand, everyone is a slave to an overbearing government. On the other hand, we have too much "lawlessness". You keep using that word, Haeddre, I don't think you know what it means.
We, the people of the U.S., have some inalienable rights. These cannot be over-ruled by the majority. Equal protection under the law is one of those rights no matter how you vote nor how dearly you wish it wasn't so.
The people vote, and that should be the final say. But voting is just a joke now.
Oh, for the Good Ol' Days of 2000.
The people vote, and that should be the final say.
Really? So when the public vote to remove rights that you have, you'll just sit there and like it?
Like, say... when people vote to kick the Creationists off a school board and throw out the cdesignproponentists crap they introduced...? I remember certain groups insisting it was illegal to vote them out...
Now, we are slaves to the government, with rights that are continuously taken away from us.
Aww... are people fighting back when you try to vote away their rights? Perhaps you understand why voting on other people's rights is wrong...?
But that requires empathy... which you clearly lack.
How is this even lawful? The people vote, and that should be the final say.
As you keep telling us, we don't live in a democracy, but a representative republic. It's in that Constitution you wave around.

In which case, the government stopped working for the people in 1789. If you don't like the United States as set up by that Constitution, you might be happier someplace else.
"Law'lessness" n.: anarchy, a state of disorder (e.g. Al-Shabaab grew amid Somalia's lawlessness (CNN.com) ); if you are a fundie - government and legal decisions you don't like.
We have a demon prince? Cool!
Seriously, Haeddre, we never have rights to take away the rights of others. Do the words "...liberty and justice FOR ALL" mean nothing to you? All means all...not just your depressing little pseudo-Christian cult. If you don'tlike it, pack up and leave and possibly start your own country. Rapture Land
Never mind! Not long to go now! It'll soon be all over and you'll be able to soar joyously above the masses free from all their sordid sanity and grubby reality.
Finally you'll know peace as you spend an eternity watching sinners being tortured in hell while listening to the angels singing Bible God's praises as a counterpoint to the prolonged wailing and agonized screams.
Sheer bliss, at last.
Uncle Sam is the Demon Prince of America?
"The government once worked for us"
Actually. The government works for sane Americans who are actually smart and adult enough to know what a government is.
Not for selfish entitled trash, who whines about being a slave, while living in a heated house on a paved road, protected by your local police force.
The people vote, and that should be the final say.
Nope. The Constitution is the final say.
If "we the people" voted to outlaw Christianity, I bet you'd have problems with your opinion about the voters' ultimate sovereignty.
"How is this even lawful?"
Have you ever understood our system of government? It is lawful because we are not a direct democracy. If a majority of people vote and pass something that is unconstitutional, Fourteenth Amendment, this is when the court comes in to play and overturns ballot measures. The courts are partially there to prevent the tyranny of the majority, something I'm sure you know nothing about.
If the majority voted that the earth was flat would it cease to be round?
If the majority voted away the 2nd amendment how many of you who are apparently so big on the will of the people would agree with it? You're nothing but a bunch of hypocrites.
@Illuminatalie et al.: Maybe we should regard "Uncle Sam" as a diminutive for Samigina, then? From the Lesser Key of Solomon:
The Fourth Spirit is Samigina, a Great Marquis. He appeareth in the form of a little Horse or Ass, and then into Human shape doth he change himself at the request of the Master. He speaketh with a hoarse voice. He ruleth over 30 Legions of Inferiors. He teaches all Liberal Sciences, and giveth account of Dead Souls that died in sin.
(On a side note, the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum specifically notes that Samigina relates of the souls in Cartagra/Purgatory.)
You know, it's strange, for people who claim to be so patriotic, they don't have a clue how things work do they?
So if the majority of people in a certain district voted to legalise lynching it would be fine with you?
Even if it's conservative Christians that they propose lynching?
Certain basic rights are not open to the vote of the majority. Simple as that.
They are called "Human Rights" for a reason ya know. You should not have a choice to vote away someone else's rights. If you want to vote away your OWN rights; sure, why not?
You are not slaves to the government, you are slaves to the Constitution.
You mean snake oil salesmen like these?

The people vote, and that should be the final say.
You know darn well that if a referendum passed to outlaw Christianity you'd be whining about your Constitutional rights.
@ Skyknight
So he's a Democrat funeral director with a forever sore throat and lots of apprentices?
Huh. Doesn't sound like Uncle Sam. Maybe people forgot that getup of his is supposed to be black and white along the way.
Hey guys, check out that page and see what they're saying. One fundie asked if homosexuals should be executed. Others replied that it doesn't need to happen YET, but that Jesus will do so when he takes over. Another stated they shouldn't be allowed to be gay openly. Yikes.
What? Uncle Sam's a devil, now?
Would Lady Liberty & the Eagle be pure Hell-spawn as well?
Uh, face it, The United States was founded as a Democratic Republic based of the principles of The Age Of Reason. The Founding Fathers had more in common with Voltaire than Cromwell.

- how exactly does repealing the ban on gay marriage take away any of your rights?
Confused?
