Oil is the answer, not even the UN wants to mess with King Abdullah.
I know an exchange student from there, I was shocked to see how extroverted she was (talking to me even though I'm a male and all). I guess she's making the most of her freedom in Australia.
Can someone remind me why we not only let these people run their countries in such a way that would shame a 12th century terror state, but we have actually become allies with them?
They allow us access to their oil. (If that ever stopped, the press would be encouraged to print out the dirt on the oppressive Saudis, and since it would all be instantly verifiable as true, the public would be enraged and support whatever war we needed to restore *-ocracy.) The other reason might be that they own a lot of America's debt.
Are we really living in the 21st century? Why is the rest of the world pally, pally with these barbarous camel herders. Oil! Ok!
Money always supersedes principle.
Here's the thing, DiscoBerry, this should always shock you. No matter how often it occurs, you should never be desensitized to the suffering of other humans. I wouldn't let this happen to a cat, let alone an elderly woman. If I ever stop being shocked at man's cruelty to man I want to be shot for my lack of empathy.
I see their point. If they let 75 year old women entertain strange men in their homes, this will inevitably lead to promiscuous fornication by young women, which will be followed rapidly by drunken parties, and then dancing. Before you know it, women will get drivers licences, and then walk around in the street with bare faces. Best to stop the whole thing before it starts.

Actually the males were her adult nephew (on her dead husbands side) and a friend of his. He had been raised in the home from a very early age(apparently had been breastfed along with one of her own children). But as he was not a direct blood relative is not allowed to see his aunty or help her, particularly after he has left home.
The mingling was actually the delivery of food. She was unable to leave the house un escorted by non existent relatives and her good nephew was delivering food.
Apparently widows who's children do not live nearby or who have no children are expected to starve to death. Other women can not deliver food because they can't go out either and if they bring their husbands the anti mingle laws are still broken.
remember US & UK the Saudis are your best friends in the region. The mere facts that their laws are brutal and barbaric, their govt and rulers corrupt, their wahhabbist take on Islam violent, are all beside the point
Er, that could include dialling for pizza, arranging for furniture to be delivered, having two of her hubbies buddies drop by to watch a soccer game - even letting in the two cops who came to arrest her.
I find it darkly ironic that while Saudi businessmen are notorious pumping millions into international sex slavery (http://news.ncmonline.com/news/view_article.html?article_id=8798f2a675359064ffa25c60d3ff3bff ), the Saudi authorities are mortified at a Saudi woman daring to allow two non - family member menfolk into her home
And who was it that put a stop to research into alternative fuels to oil in the 1980s? Ron Reagan. Perhaps he didn't want his investments, and the Bushes' investments to lose value? Personal interest over national and global?
Result, the world is in thrall to this kind of barbaric regime.
I'll be very glad when cars all run on hydrogen fuel cells or some other technology, so Western nations can start treating the Saudis as they truly deserve.
They are one of the biggest financiers of Islamic terrorism on the globe, have zero human rights, and yet the West sucks up to them and closes its eyes to appaling human rights abuses, because they have the oil it needs.
"THERE IS NO MIDDLE FINGER BIG ENOUGH!"
-Yahtzee.
Fuck you, Saudi Arabia. No jokes, no snark. Just fuck you. Shit like this makes me think that I could maybe get behind a war against Saudi Arabia, under the right circumstances, even though I know it likely wouldn't solve anything. This shit has got to stop. Fuck you. Fuck you and your magic cube thing and your royal family and your fucking theocracy.
Confused?
