Nice to see the Catholic church back in the news. Always fun when there is a controversy involving them. Just goes to show you that Catholicism is not a religion that God endorsed. Catholicism is a vehicle for the devil.

The pope said you're not a real christian, so there!
Also, Islam is the real religion.
No, it just shows that Catholicism is a very big, centralized, organized religion, and thus much more subject to scandals than Protestant churches.
OK, well, if you don't believe Catholics are Christians, then you don't get to count them when you are trying to claim that the USA is a predominately Christian country. Fair is fair.
I'm glad to see you take joy in the pain of others.
How very Christian of you.
By the way, you are aware that other religions have their own sex scandals too, right? If I were you I'd pay attention to the beam in my own eye before talking about the speck in another's.
Fundie fight! Bibles all around!
Oh, and - dude, you need to realise all Christians were Catholic, a few centuries ago. Your precious little redneck sect owes just as much to them as any other. Not that I blame the Protestants, their philosophy was marginally more tolerable, but eh.
"Just goes to show you that Catholicism is not a religion that God endorsed."
And what do you think about all the non-Catholic Christian controversies? What do you think of the ones that have happened to your particular little sect, or aren't you aware of them?
The Catholic Church may be a corrupt, scandal ridden, hypocritical, money hoarding vehicle for paedophiles, bullshitters and frauds but that does NOT mean... oh wait that does sound bad.
That's not to say any other form of christianity, nor any other religion for that matter is any better though, you all have horrid little eccentricities

True, Pope Benedict XVI, before he attained such a lofty position in the Roman Catholic Church, was the head of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith - basically the modern-day, PC name for the Spanish Inquisition. Cardinal Ratzinger (for it was he, at that time), leading such a senior department of the Holy See (second only to that of the Pontiff himself, in terms of authority, by definition) couldn't not know all the exact details about all the RCC's kiddy-diddling priests.
But you Right-wing Protestant Fundamentalist Christians aren't exactly pure as the driven snow:

Right-wing Fundamentalist Christianity is a vehicle for those worse than the Devil.
Oh, I'm afraid that all you right-wing fundies only have the right to refer to we Atheists and non-fundie Christians, Agnostics, Wiccans etc on FSTDT (and everywhere else) as purer than Jesus, certainly superior to God, and utterly sinless in perpetuity.

Yes, and it gets terrible gas mileage and makes me look like a pimp, so I'll stick to a Lamborghini. - Satan
There is corruption in EVERY denomination. The only reason the Catholics get singled out is the fact that they have an organized hierarchy, which allows for large cover-ups. The same thing happens in Protestant churches, on a smaller scale. One small town preacher covering for another isn't as sensational as the pope -- who is world-famous, even amongst non-Catholics -- covering up a case of pedophilia, but it's just as evil in either case. Plus, people have Catholics under the microscope when it comes to sexual abuse -- you don't see that kind of attention being paid to other sects.
I'm not defending the church's actions, of course. If anything, I'm glad that these cases are coming to light. However, I would also like to see corruption in other denominations being exposed, given that Protestant abuse victims suffer just as much as those abused by priests.
There's often controversy around Protestant/mormon/anglican etc churches. You just don't hear about it because they're not as high profile as the catholics.
My mother left the protestant church (and began her journey to atheism) when our pastor (who was married with 2 kids) was having affairs with several parishioners (all of whom were married with kids). I was about 9 myself and was overjoyed I wouldn't have to suffer through service and the absolute torture of Sunday school.
Yet again, a fundy not understanding just what it is they're attacking. Par for the course, really.
Especially since the Roman Catholic Church was the first Christian organization ever.
The Catholic church traces its roots back to St. Peter and Jesus you fuck. Your protestant evangelical beliefs are more removed from Jesus than the Catholic church would be.
Of course everyone knows the REAL religion is Pastafarianism.
Dear Sir,
I wish to complain about the post you have just made about Catholic priests who molest little boys. Many of my best friends are Catholic priests and only a few of them are pedophiles.
Yours faithfully,
Joe Mama
I'm a firm believer in Catholics being found to be depraved more than other donominations is because they have more people. Lot's of sick, illegal and hypocritical shit's going down in Baptist and Evangalistic churchs too.
I searched with words to that effect and got a long list of newspaper articles that involved you guys right in there with the Catholics. And it's all just the tip of the iceberg
Damn right, praise Vishnu!
Edit:
I have heard the (lame-ass) argument that the Baptists have existed since the time of John the Baptist and are thus the True Christians.
But there would be one, tiny flaw in that proposition: the Catholic Church would have considered those proto-Baptists to be heretics and would have burned them all hundreds of years ago.
How ignorant!
The catholic church is in existence since the year 325,and the Council of Nicaea,to be precise. When did your church come into being, jgamer? \your schadenfreude, besides, is quite unchristian, even if the catholic church is run and manned by by some 'odd' people. Still, quite contrary to being a vehicle for the devil, it preserved and settled the canon of scripture that your lot use and set such store by. You are in one way or another descended from the catholic church. that makes your church a son of the vehicle for the devil. No?
Technically, the Catholic Church is the source of all Western Christianity; the Eastern Churches broke off early on. Also, the RCC changed a bit during the Counter-Reformation.
Still, the old "Baptists were the original Christians who ran and hid until 1700 AD" line has not a shred of evidence behind it, and I'd bet almost all its doctrines stem from the Protestant Reformation, particularly Calvin and Zwingli ... as does every other Protestant sect. The KJV came from the Church of England, which is nearly as Catholic as the Pope. (Mormons might be a partial exception, seeing as they sprang mainly from the writings of a single leader.)
Bad Press = not a godly religion
Sounds good to me. Peter denied Jesus three times and Judas, well he hung himself... or dashed himself on rocks... anyway it wasn't pretty.
Phew, just saved me a lot of time. Thanks!

Says whom? Where in the Bible does it condemn pedophilia? You'd think with all those nitpicking rules about not seeing your sister naked, which insects you can and can't eat and what the return policy should be when you sell your daughter into slavery and the buyer wants to return her in a "used" condition, God would have mentioned not porking little kids if it were that important to Him.
Maybe it's the Bible that's the vehicle for the devil and you're all full of crap. How's that for an idea?
@Alexius
Nice job, you found out how to turn on capslock, write nonsensical bullshit, and copy-paste it ten thousand times.
Are you done now?
I wonder what jgamer's thoughts are on the Baptist missionaries who tried to kidnap children in Haiti....
Oh, and can someone kindly delete that wall of spam. Thanks.
Behold, the Captain Scarlet of vehicles. The Top Gear Toyota Hilux:

Despite being dropped (and stuff dropped on it), wrecking ball-ed, sunk, and even blown up, it still started up. This thing's fucking unkillable! Now you know why it's driven by 11 out of 10 rebels, insurgents & the Taliban. And if not even the USAF can stop these, well...
Although the Titanic sunk, not even God himself could destroy one of these.
Seeing how paul of tarsus was the head of the roman church....which became later known as the roman catholic church, I find your comments to be rather strange. You have heard of that guy paul, the person who wrote some (not all) of the letters in the new testemant that have been attributed to him?
@ Doctor Whom--
It's fundie because it supposes the Catholic Church is the implicit whore of babylon run by an invisible satyr with a grudge against the entire universe. In truth, it's just an organization run by human beings, like all of them. But if it weren't the devil, then jgamer might have to acknowledge it's almost essentially the same, just with much worse scandals at the managerial level and fewer fundie pricks at the laity level than his religion, whatever that is.
Gladly ignoring, among others, Ted Haggard, Jack Hyles, or 9/11?. Or that the fact that, without it, you wouldn't even exist?
"Catholicism is a vehicle for the devil"
Without said 'vehicle for the devil', you wouldn't have Martin Luther, Protestantism, thus the beliefs you have today. You'd probably be referring to your 'God' as 'Allah', like the Church of Malta (one of the earliest established pre-Holy Roman Christian churches).
Just like those devil moon-worshipping Muslims.
Confused?
