my kids wouldnt turn wild or rebellious when thye get the chance. The moment I saw something like that would be the moment they got a spanking with a belt. I guess they could go off to college and become wild and rebellious. However that wont happen either since unless they have a full ride scholarship thye will attend a local community college before going off somewhere.
it has been my experience the kids and teens who turn wild or rebellious are the ones that the parents do not spank with the belt when they need it.

Very probably they won´t have a problem to play the obedient kids for their mother and being totally different as soon as they aren´t near mom & dad :D
I had a relatively relaxed and "liberal" upbringing in my teens (although my mum would have spanked me a bit when I was much younger) and I didn't rebel as a teenager. Why? 'Coz what the fuck exactly was I going to rebel against!
Kids will only rebel if you give them a reason to.
Brought up in a catholic (then protestant) home and beaten with the belt by my father. Guess what?

I grew up in a home like this. Unlike some of my older siblings, I didn't really rebel. I just became suicidally depressed and developed trust issues. Way to parent, there, asshole.

I was spanked at arbitrary intervals with a wooden spoon throughout my childhood (not into my teens, though), and while I have put the spankings themselves behind me (no pun intended!) I have never, ever forgotten the use of the wooden spoon. Nobody needs to use objects to spank their children.

If you belt them in order to keep them in line, they'll only learn to avoid you when they want to do something you disagree with, and will be unable to learn the consequences for certain behavior beyond "mommy will beat me". Those are the kids that go hog wild, the ones who live under a control freak.
Funny, I was beaten and raised in a fundie home and I rebelled big time. Booze, sex, drugs if it was available, I did it.
My spouse was never hit harder than a 'smarten up' cuff to the back of the head. The worst thing he ever did was a little teenage drinking, and a real life situation from the song "Wake up little Suzie".

I'm twenty and I'm hardly "wild" or "rebellious." The most "wild" and "rebellious" thing I've ever done was return a library book two days late.

I don't understand why there's a hatred of community college, though.

I was spanked, and sometimes abusively so (more so than normal, that is), and I grew up with serious anger issues. I didn't start to calm down until after I got older and they felt that spankings weren't as appropriate.
I haven't forgiven them yet, nor am I sure that I ever will. Physical and psychological abuse from them both.
Hey, community colleges aren't necessarily bad -- at least here in California. I remember one of my philosophy profs (in a pretty heavily fundie town) inviting Satan to appear before them so that they could enter into an agreement -- just to prove to the fundies in the class that it wouldn't happen . I had to stifle a laugh at seeing how many students in the room flinched.
