It's been a long time since God created the first rainbow. Some 4,300 years. And so it's easy to see why many people ignore what happened in the days of Noah. How ironic that the recent White House rainbow was used to celebrate sin rather than to remind people about God's judgment against sin and His love for sinners.
The biblical timeline reveals the point in history when God brought the Great Flood upon the Earth. It was an act of divine judgment in response to man's wickedness. And the rainbow God created after the flood was to assure man that the Lord would never again flood the Earth as he did in the days of Noah.
And so it is ironic, and yes even tragic, that President Obama would choose to light the White House with a rainbow after the recent Supreme Court decision. It was his loud and proud way of celebrating the sin of same-sex marriage. Obviously, the president doesn't seem to believe that the Old Testament stories of Noah's Ark and Sodom and Gomorrah were actual events in history. If he did, then he might also be inclined to believe what Jesus said about being the only way to heaven. (See John 14:6.)
You see my friends, the "ark" today is the cross where Christ died, and the flood is coming in full force on Judgment Day. The rainbow in the sky reminds us of God's judgment and His love, and it points us to the only way to escape the coming wrath and be safe forever in paradise. Noah and his family escaped the flood. And so will all those who come to Christ for salvation.

I think Iris https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iris_(mythology) wants to have a word with you

Yes - because it never happened, at least on a global scale.
The biblical timeline reveals the point in history when God brought the Great Flood upon the Earth.
Which is the only place you'll find. The geological timeline does not find it. I wonder why?

Thank Thor! Can you imagine how much more of a laughing stock we'd be if he did?
Yes - your god loved the world so much that, instead of changing men's hearts, which as an omnipotent being it could I suppose, it decided to wipe out the planet. I can see where you guys get that xtian love from.
Maybe all the rainbows are being displayed by True Believers to remind God of His promise.
God's promise never made much sense anyway. Rainbows tend to appear after a rain, not before, never during, so could only remind God after He'd already stopped the rain. It's like seeing a reminder to pick up milk while you're bringing in the groceries.
Setting aside your god's murderous love for a moment, I would just warn you that a cross would make a particularly shitty ark. Its design would be extremely susceptible to wave action-- always pitching, hard to manuever. Where would you sit? You're better off straddling a log at that point. Then you would have to worship Paul Bunyan. That wouldn't be so bad, he seems quite friendly as gods go.

Along with anyone with a functioning brain.
and the flood is coming in full force on Judgment Day.
If you'd read your bible, it says that God promised not to flood the world again. And one could even argue that it's a promise to not bring about global death and destruction again.
And the rainbow God created after the flood was to assure man that the Lord would never again flood the Earth as he did in the days of Noah.
Recent flooding in Texas and the tsunamis of the last few years make your god a liar and a sadist then.
You enjoy that.
@ Ivurm: because he wants "sinners" dead. If you're gay, or atheist, or liberal, or pagan or non-Christian, he wants you dead and gone.
That's not what he TELLS himself, natch. He tells himself that what he wants is for all of us to "get right" and repent. But...this post is a clue to what's going on under the hood, so to speak. This way, it's not HIM who wants us gone--it's GOD, don't you see? That way, he gets to tell himself he's blameless. God does what God wills, after all. It's not HIS fault that he likes the idea.
Make no mistake. He, and millions like him, want us dead.
Obviously, the president doesn't seem to believe that the Old Testament stories of Noah's Ark and Sodom and Gomorrah were actual events in history.
If so, good for him - he's not basing his whole life on some book by a bunch of anonymous Bronze Age Arabs talking about events that no one could actually have witnessed*.
* If anyone who looked was turned into a pillar of salt, how could anyone have seen what happened to S & G?
@Gimel
Wait, what? Laws of optics changed after the Noah's flood?
A lot of fundies claim it never rained before the flood, as per Genesis 2:6 'But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground'.
No, I am sure that the president does not believe that the Ark story recounts real history. No same person does, and the more knowledgeable of them also know that the Bible (Babble) stole the entire tale from an earlier flood myth.
Is there anyone in the world more stupid than a Bible literalist?
Okay, so I'm pretty tired of the whole "first rainbow" thing. Biblical studies time go!
Okay so when your sky wizard made his covenant with beardy mczoophilia, it didn't say anything about that rainbow being the first one. Even within your own mythology, it doesn't say that was the first rainbow. Only that the rainbow was a sign of promise after beardy made an animal sacrifice (following the ritual for making covenants)
@Kanna
The rainbow reminds ME of the principles of physics and optics
Actually the rainbow reminds me of the best Pink Floyd album ever, Dark Side of the Moon.

Which is stupid, because if it mists in the sunlight you'll still see rainbows in the mist, as anyone who's ever played with a garden hose on a hot summer day can attest.
How ironic that the recent White House rainbow was used to celebrate sin rather than to remind people about God's judgment against sin and His love for sinners.
God loved the sinners in Noah's day so much, he killed every last one of them and didn't give them any chance to repent.

Once you find evidence of Noah's flood (it should be everywhere, but we still haven't found it) or Sodom and Gomorrah (still haven't found it), I'm sure people like myself and Obama who don't believe Bronze Age myths describe actual historical events will believe it.
The rainbow in the sky reminds us of God's judgment and His love, and it points us to the only way to escape the coming wrath and be safe forever in paradise
Why didn't God just send Jesus back in Genesis, then, since the world was so sinful and in need of a savior? The people of Noah's day couldn't have been doing anything worse than the people of Jesus's day.
@Everyone
Bad taste in Pink Floyd albums, eh? We all know Wish You Were Here is the best Pink Floyd album.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
