I agree with you. I believe that the human race has probably lost brain capacity over the centuries, due to the curse of sin. There are still a lot of very intellignet people in this world, but I believe the average intellect has probably declined significantly.

"I base this wild brain fart on the fact that I'm a big smarty scierntest."
They should just say, "I'm a big, thick retard. Please do humanity a favour and kill me and turn me into fertiliser."
Ah, yes, the ridiculous thread about the door. Assumptions of the flood even make their way in there because it was buried. Sometimes I really worry about these people and just how far they'd go to prove how much they love their bloodthirsty god.
H'mmm The bible was put together by these brainy people of the past and it is contradictory, lying, immoral, boring, stupid ...
It is interesting to note that not all that long ago (less than 200 years) the only path to higher education for anyone in the western world was through the church. To be a trained academic you had to agree to be a priest. This meant the greatest minds of several generations were indeed priests or at least had priestly training and education.
This also led to record numbers of atheist, agnostic and lapsed priests.
In more recent times, with the opening of secular opportunities for education, the average intelligence of the priesthood has diminished greatly.

I never understood how sin is supposed to be able to wreck things like that. Are there some sort of sin particles floating around the universe and interfering with normal matter? Or maybe sin is actually anti-matter? Or maybe it's just a made up concept that primitive people used in an attempt to keep everyone in line.

And your sample for this is? Using members of RR doesn't tell you anything about the general population as it's too condensed of a demographic. That's data gathering 101, first freaking day.
The last post in that thread is a good example of the decline of intelligence, at least on Rapture Ready.
"Archaelology is indeed interesting.
I wish Turkey would allow a dig (through ice if necessary) to find another door: The door to Noah's Ark. There might even be an Ark attached."
The data disagrees. We have to keep raising the bar on IQ every year, as the average is constantly increasing but we need to mark the average as 100. People are getting smarter, at every level of society. You fail.

After all, how do you account for the fact that Dumbya was voted in - Twice? The mirror in the Hubble Space Telescope is like a cracked & dirty dental mirror, compared to that possessed by everyone in Ruptured Retards. Proof? (emphasis added):
"There are still a lot of very intellignet people in this world, but I believe the average intellect has probably declined significantly."
The jokes just write themselves, really.
In that case, I advise you to stop going to your regular doctor and instead visit someone who uses 14th-century medical techniques. And move out of your house and into one built with 14th-century architecture. People were SOOOO much smarter back then, so you'll be better off.
So there were astrophysicists, evolutionary biologists, and computer engineers in ancient times? I mean, it's not like we have those today since we've gotten increasingly stupider because of sin...oh wait.
See, I think that we can blame the decline of overall human intellect in this country not on sin, but on things like Jersey Shore, Dancing with the Stars, Real Housewives of Wherever, and whatever the next show is where they follow a celebrity around for no apparent reason.
As for sin? Well, murder is a sin. Lots of murders happen during wars, and wars have always been a boon to human knowledge and technology, if for no other reason than for 'us' having to come up with something awesome before 'they' do.
And your proof of this is? Where are the ancient writings that describe highly advanced science (like quantum mechanics?) Where are the writings that no human now alive can understand as the ideas therein are too complicated for our brains to handle? Where are the highly advanced structures that no human with Stone or Bronze Age technology could build? (PROTIP: The pyramids could be built with Stone Age tech, so they don't count.) Hell, where are the fossils of Homo sapiens with larger brains than us? Neanderthals were a different species entirely, so if you count them (ignoring the fact that larger brain does not necessarily mean more intelligent) then, by definition, you believe in (gasp!) EVOLUTION.
Actually, tests of intelligence have gotten harder over the years to maintain B/70% as the average mark.
And since the first sin in Christianity was consuming the fruit of knowledge of good and evil, I think that sin should theoretically increase brain capacity. You don't know your Bible.
Not the curse of sin, but the very concept of "sin" is what has set us back. Imagine where we could be, had organized religion not chained us down for 2,000 years...
@Sisyphus "I partially agree but I think the lack of intelligence is due to nanny states protecting stupid people thus allowing them to reach adulthood in order to breed. Since they are protected they seem to outbreed the intelligent people so it's a self perpetuating cycle. "
Yeah, that's exactly what is happening. I mean, it's a very commonly known and easily observable fact that poverty tend to decrease birth rates. This is also why the European nanny-states are populated by morons, and why they're so jealous of America's present situation.
Overused liberetardian bullshit is overused.
The Internet, as well as all other things that we un-"intellignet" people think arose in the 20th and 21st centuries, were actually invented by cavemen inspired by the one true gawd. But stone-age atheists and the pre-dawn media managed to prevent that bit of news from reaching the public.
A case could be made that people were smarter overall before the rise of civilization. Devastating epidemic diseases like small pox or bubonic plague that kill their victims regardless of their intelligence arose after humans had more concentrated, urban populations. In a hunter-gather society, death is more likely to be caused because of inter-tribal warfare, murder, an accident, or an inability to produce enough food. Intelligence can be a factor in avoiding being murdered or killed in a stupid accident. Intelligence can be used to either avoid war or survive it. Intelligence can be used to figure out how to gather the maximum amount of food. You don't also have the same selection pressures in a modern country in the developed world.* Also, growing up, children in the modern developed world have a lot more in the way of passive entertainment (e.g. television) than hunter-gatherers would. It could be argued that a child in a hunter-gatherer society would interact with their environment more, which would stimulate their brains during a crucial period of development. (And yeah, I basically stole this argument stolen from Guns, Germs, and Steel .)
I don't think that this is necessarily true. I don't think we have any actual studies showing this to be the case. Even then, there are a lot of different aspects to defining intelligence. Intelligence is a hard thing to measure.
I'd just like to point out that the idea that the average human intellect has declined isn't that far-fetched. But it has nothing to do with "the curse of sin." It's more that in an environment where stupid people are more likely to die . . . come on, how long do you think that most of the people at Rapture Ready would last?
*Note: I think that the lack of selection pressure is a point in favor of the modern developed world. I don't think that people should die simply because they aren't very intelligent.
Hey, wait a second . . . "the curse of sin" refers to Original Sin, correct? And Original Sin refers to Adam and Eve eating the fruit from the Tree of theKnowledge of Good and Evil? So we're stupid because our ancestors ate something that allowed them to gain knowledge? How does that even make sense?
How would 'sin' physically affect the over-time function/size of our brain?(And wouldn't such a change due to natural selection-of-sorts be evidence for evolution that you fundies hate so much?)
You can shout 'I believe ________' at the top of your lungs, but it still doesn't make it true.
You sir, are full of shit.
@I read about the afterlife
"Oh yes, the Dark Ages were absolutey fraught with genius!"

So tell me, Ruptured Retards, why aren't we exploring the galaxy in awesome ships like this right now?:

On the other hand, the average human lifespan has increased, over the centuries from a maximum of 40 years, to in some cases, over 100 years...
To follow Jadeeyes's analogy, does this mean that "The Curse of Sin" is increasing human longevity as a result...?
I agree with you, Jadeeyes. I believe that the human race has probably lost brain capacity over the centuries, due to the curse of fundamentalism. There are still a lot of very intellignet people in this world, but I believe the average intellect has probably declined significantly.
There. Fixed.
"There are still a lot of very intellignet people in this world"
Such as, for example... Spike Milligna (the well-known typing error).
The jokes just write themselves, really.
Likely human intelligence peaked just at the dawn of agriculture and herding. While our ancestors were hunting and gathering, they needed every single brain cell to stay alive. After they developed reliable food supplies, the stupid and the weak could survive. As technology advances, life gets easier, less intelligence required and physical strength are required, and the idiots who would otherwise be weeded out by natural selection survive. Physical and mental deterioration is the price we pay for technology and ease of living.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
