Here's what we like about it:

1. It is Christ-centered
2. It is Chronological
3. It is self-contained. (No outside books we need to borrow or buy)
4. It is easily adaptable to use with all children's abilities
5. It is budget friendly
6. It can be used as broadly or as in-depth in scope as you want without getting bogged down in any particular areas

Here's what we don't like about it:

1. It's not finished yet - it is only two volumes so far
2. It dates the creation as around 5000BC and we personally believe it is around 4000BC

Does that mean you only know history up to 600 AD or so? That explains a lot.

3. It depicts unicorns as leaving little 'visible currents' of air behind them, and we personally believe they leave sparkly rainbows.
4. It describes the proper execution for blasphemy to be hanging and we personally believe they should be drawn and quartered.
5. It says that kangaroos floated on rafts to Australia after the flood waters receded and we personally believe they were teleported by God to live in Australia, using the exact same technology he will rapture us with.

So casual in their acceptance of lunacy, like a newscast I saw once from a southern state where Jesus' face appeared in the oil stains when they were renovating an old house. Apparently they had uncovered St Paul earlier that day, but it was only deemed a so-so miracle. Talk about living in your own world. They were like, it's totally normal to see these visions and signs, but when Jesus shows up, well that's news.

Ok. That sounds reasonable, though history doesn't always have to be presented that way.

'Cuz ya wouldn't want little Susie reading anything with a different, maybe not even Christ-centered, view point.

Once one knows the basics, one should never delve any deeper. God created us, Jesus saved us, end of the class.

And, when it comes to our children's education, we like to go cheap.

You know, like when the facts don't agree with the Bible you can just gloss over them.

Well, maybe by the time little Susie has kids they will have made up enough history for a third volume.

-Not a good reason to choose it.

2. It is Chronological
-Most are, but I understand that point.

3. It is self-contained. (No outside books we need to borrow or buy)
-I guess that's useful, but they should probably get another source to make sure it's correct and unbiased.

4. It is easily adaptable to use with all children's abilities
-Three levels of complexity, so this point makes sense.

5. It is budget friendly
-It's only 40 bucks each volume. And there'll only be about 5 volumes, that's only $200. Cheap.

6. It can be used as broadly or as in-depth in scope as you want without getting bogged down in any particular areas
-Not really, It's not really all that adaptable from the samples I saw.(especially the audio tapes)

Okay that's rather pedantic. Where'd they get 4000BC from anyway? My church hasn't ever mentioned the date.

From what I read the history book does teach modern history well, but it's ancient history could be a concern, though it will still teach you all you need to know to pass a test.

I guess it's better than learning history from the bible.

I love how a history book needs to submit to your personally delusions for it to be acceptable, regardless of you actually knowing anything about history. Also, I'm curious what it must say about older civilizations like teh ancient Egyptians that we know where there prior to this books date for teh beginning of the world. Do you just pretend it never happened and the pyramids were built by God or some sort of 'intelligent architecture'? Or do you just shift them in time such that they start at or shortly after the alleged beginning of time? That would put the end of the ancient Egyptian Empire a bit recently though...I guess you have to abridge some of it so it still ends a sufficiently long time ago.

Also, how do you make 4,000 years of history prior to the alleged birth of Christ still Christ-centric? Really I can imagine these volumes take forever to write because of all the creative sorting, withholding, adding, and reimagining of history that has to go into such an endeavor.

I personally believe the world started only yesterday, and God just planted some past memories in our brains to trick us, and I also believe when we go to sleep today, our world will end, and in it's place another world will be created with everything exactly the same, even people. People who would be just like us, with same DNA and memories, and they'll think that they are us, just like we think we are those who were here before us. God could do it if he wanted to, being omnipotent and all, and I personally believe he does do that, 'cuz that's just the kind of crazy he is.
