[File under: Which one is it then?!]
Hi
I DO BELIEVE THE BIBLE LITERALLY
I believe however that it has been misinterpruted in many many ways.Google The real truth about hell and you will find many scriptures to support what I am saying

Actually I believe there is a lot of figurative speech in the bible, but what it says if properly discerned is absolute.
BUT there are many translation errors and that is for us to rightly divide the word of truth.

I don't think this is fundie.
One of them beleives the Bible literally but thinks people misinterpet it - that's just a Christian with a realistic viewpoint on how people use the Bible.
The other thinks there are parables in the Bible and it is an individual thing between them and God about how to interpret the truth behind it - that's just another perfectly normal Christian.
I don't see anything particularly fundie here.
Yes, the bible is literally metaphorical!
And those people who would claim it is metaphorically literal are just a bunch of misguided heretics!
The bible is filled with fables and lies, and you use other parts of it to back up the lies and say it's true?
Does you brain ever get tied up in a knot?

I translate that as "I make shit up".
Anyone notice the prevalence from literalists of the word "discerned". I am fairly sure this is a redefinition of "interpreted" or "guess", but they think it has some higher power guiding them and hence is correct.
Doh. Maybe I am just slow 0_o

So...how can you be sure that any given interpretation of a passage is the "absolute" one? You have effectively put yourself in a position in which you assert that the Bible has the truth in it, but you have no means with which to be certain that you have successfully pinpointed what that truth is. Which makes the Bible essentially worthless...
Rightly "divine", not divide (unless you wish to shred it, and that's OK by me).
Everything deduced from the bible depends upon the mistaken premise that it is more real or valid than Tolkien's Silmarillion .
Remember, myths were created to assuage the superstitious fears of ignorant pre-scientific people. Instead of assuaging, however, the bible has only succeeded in compounding the fears of "modern" pre-scientific folks.
Only a small subset of the ideas expressed in the bible are actually germane to real life.
These are two different posts, posing virtually opposite points of view, from the SAME PERSON. All she cares about is that "the Bible is always right," rather than whether that claim can be logically supported, regardless of whether it must be interpreted literally or it must be interpreted metaphorically. That's why this is fundie.

meh, it's like every other fundie. The bible should be taken literally, unless of course it's something I don't like, then it should be taken figuratively.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
