"I need proof that Jesus was straight?"
I can't believe you're even questioning that! If your faith was strong, you would know that he was perfectly straight. And way back then everybody was straight, anyway. Nobody even knew what gay was. Homosexuality is a modern thing.

Except for those damned Romans and the Greeks before them.
How can people be so completely clueless about damned near everything?
Homosexuality is a modern thing.
Although there's no proof that Sappho was gay, she wrote about love for women in her poetry back in 600 BC. Anyway, why would Leviticus have a prohibition against homosexuality if no one ever actually engaged in it?
Acutally, I don't think the subject of Jesus' sexuality every came up in the Bible...unless you count Mary Magdaline...I think that was her name.
Anyway, homosexual behavior has been around since the ancient Greeks.
Pick. Up. A. Book.
"Homosexuality is a modern thing."
... Didn't Sodom and Gomorrah precede the storied about Jesus, though?
Leaving aside the "homosexuality is a modern thing" thing, I have always suspected that Mary's son was a Nancy boy.
1. He "loved" his twelve disciples.
2. In paintings, including some where he has a beard, he usually looks effeminate.
3. In most of those same paintings he is usually gazing lovingly at some dude.
4. He hung out with hookers and never got laid.
5. Sandals and robes?
6. He was just about the only Biblical character who never "begat" anyone.
The word "homosexuality" is modern.
The Spartan Hoplites practiced pederasty as a tradition, which entailed a full -- yes, full -- relationship between an older soldier and a youth in training. Very important for trust and cohesion.
1) Yes it did. That's why the Bible mentions it.
2) Jesus was a guy who never married, never had sex, and spent all his time amongst twelve other guys.
He wandered around the countryside with 12 other guys and the only woman in his life he ignored entirely.
You refuse to entertain the notion that he might have married or had children in his entire life.
That doesn't sound straight to me.
So if no one knew what gay was, then why is it a sin mentioned in the Bible? And, that's not even touching on ancient Greece and Rome which both were accepting and/or indifferent to homosexuality before the rise of Christianity.
"And way back then everybody was straight, anyway. Nobody even knew what gay was. Homosexuality is a modern thing."
So you're saying that the Biblical prohibitions against homosexuality were put in there for modern readers, because the prophets who wrote the Scriptures had foreseen that homosexuality would one day exist?
Then please explain why the Bible makes no mention of abortion, or gun control, or cloning, or Stem Cell research, or the Democratic Party, or any of the other things you Fundies get your panties in a bunch about?
And yet he hung out almost exclusively with twelve men? What about the naked man who was running away from him (in the garden) when he was arrested?
As for homosexuality being "modern"... Ruth and Naomi? David and Jonathan?
Uh, heard of Ancient Greece? Like, at all? The term "homosexual" may be modern, but sexual relationships between persons of the same sex...not so much. FAIL.
(Why do I get the feeling that horseygal13 is, in fact, 13?)
My Dear Lucilius,
(I've been waiting to use that line for more than 20 years, ever since reading Seneca's letters) If you are aware of any homosexual content in Secret Mark, would you please reproduce it here?
I didn't have to look it up, by the way: I studied with Morton Smith.
Catullus wrote love poems about a young man called Juventius.
Martial wrote many, many epigrams about homosexual men.
Petronius Arbiter wrote a novel c. 60 AD called the Satyricon, which features a gay protagonist named Encolpius.
Oh, and check out the graffiti from Pompeii.
You fail utterly, Horsey Gal!
1. When Jesus was arrested, he was with a young naked boy. Mark 14 51-52. There's also a lot of leaning on his breast.
2. If the people of biblical times didn't know what homosexuality was, why would it be in the bible? You don't see computers mentioned in the bible.
I'm still not your dear, Trollena, any more than the last time you boasted that you'd heard of Seneca.
I seriously doubt your claim to have "studied with" Morton Smith. Emptying the wastebaskets in a room where he once lectured doesn't count. If you'd actually read Secret Mark, you'd know that the homosexual overtones are the reason Clement suggested keeping the text secret from new Christians. The Carpocratians were using it as justification for "sexual immorality." As I said, look it up.
There was a controversial exhibition in Sweden between 1998 and 2004, with photos showing some of the famous poses of Jesus, but in the company of leather-gays, lesbians, transvestites, people with AIDS, a lynching mob: Ecce Homo - See the human.
Here are some of the pictures: Ecce Homo Pictures
A small warning: there is a picture of full frontal male nudity... (OK, not completely full, you can't see his legs.)
Has horseygal13's head exploded yet?
Addendum: I just wanted to add that this exhibition was not done to mock religion, but to make gay people feel included in the Church.
Of course she wanted to provoke also. But rather provoke people to think, than to hate.
You might want to have a talk with your fundy brethren. They seem to think that homosexuality was always rampant, you know, that whole 'nothing new under the sun' and all those apparent verses condemning homosexuality.
Not only did he hang out with a bunch of dudes, but one of the blokes at the last supper looked like a girl.
According to Dan Brown, anyway.
It's VERY unlikely that Jesus never married. He may have been a widower during the years of his ministry: this of course proves nothing about his orientation and the Bible doesn't provide enough data for us to judge. Nor does Jesus himself say anything about gay sex. Perhaps the Bible is simply not all that bothered. What's modern is the Right's obsession with homosexuality; Jesus is far more concerned about wealth and its dangers, about which one hears the fundies say damn all.
Maybe not, but God and Josef were his two dads. And I don't think that someone would have two fathers unless God and Josef aren't homosexual (or bi). Also, God highly prefers men over women, that's why he speaks more rights to them.
Definitely gay.
The Greeks want a word, so do the Romans.
Jesus had no recorded liasons with women and hung around with a bunch of men. Nothing wrong with that of course but it does make you wonder when men often married very young.
A 30 year old bachlor that lived with Mom and had a "friend" who was a whore ? hmmmm
“"I need proof that Jesus was straight?"
I can't believe you're even questioning that!”
I dunno, he kissed a lot of disciples.
“If your faith was strong, you would know that he was perfectly straight.”
‘Search your feelings, you know it to be true.’
That’s not proof, that’s just you beind dead set on Jesus not being a poofter.
" And way back then everybody was straight, anyway.”
Then why are there rules about it in the Bible?
I mean, there’s no commandment not to wear spurs when you ride unicorns because there are no unicorns. But there are rules against Teh Gey, right? What were those in response to?
“Nobody even knew what gay was.”
You have much to learn about humans.
“Homosexuality is a modern thing.”
So, it’s NOT in the Bible, you say?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
