Canada's notorious "Section 13" has resulted in persons being fined and harassed with "human rights complaints" before Orwellian "Humans Rights Tribunals" for so-called "crimes" such as "homophobia" and "islamophobia". These "tribunals" have a soviet union-like 100 percent conviction rate.

Eh. Section 13 does pretty much what this guy thinks it does, so too do our other protections against hate speech and rascist invective.

I consider that a good thing. The law isn't there to punish publishers, magazines, etc. It's there to protect. Specifically, to protect people from rascist groups and homophobic morons who spread and encourage hate. There's a real motivation for it. As a society, Canada values the liberty of citizens to live free of fear and pressure on certain protected spectrums above the right of random morons to spew hate. There's no defense for even holding these positions. We can't make laws about what people are allowed to think or believe, but we can damn well punish them if their beliefs are irresponsible and make them bad citizens or neighbors. I dig this law.

(1) It is a discriminatory practice for a person or a group of persons acting in concert to communicate telephonically or to cause to be so communicated, repeatedly, in whole or in part by means of the facilities of a telecommunication undertaking within the legislative authority of Parliament, any matter that is likely to expose a person or persons to hatred or contempt by reason of the fact that person or those persons are identifiable on the basis of a prohibited ground of discrimination.

Interpretation

(2) For greater certainty, subsection (1) applies in respect of a matter that is communicated by means of a computer or a group of interconnected or related computers, including the Internet, or any similar means of communication, but does not apply in respect of a matter that is communicated in whole or in part by means of the facilities of a broadcasting undertaking.

This is a sovereign nation, with it's own laws and culture, and quite fucking frankly, you Yanks fuck up every other nation you stick your fucking "holier-then-thou" noses in. I'm sure there are some good Americans out there, I'm sure there are quite a lot of them. The point is, all the loud, obnoxious, assholey ones get into a bitchfest about how we run our shit up here.
