(on why only men get the privilege of filing for divorce...)
This is going to get me hated by some... but here we go again... God gives women and men DIFFERENT rules to follow. The Bible is clear as a bell in this area. Much of this is in Genesis where it basically tells women 'obey your husbands.' It also tells husband to 'love your wife.' There are many other areas where the differences are clearly delineated between the sexes. We are judged based on what we do or fail to do. If your spouse fails Biblically it is no license for you to do likewise and vice versa.

Great, except that civilization has actually advanced since that book was written. I don't know if you got the memo, but men and women both have equal rights under the law, and both are free to file for divorce whenever they decide that step is necessary. Forcing someone to stay in an unhappy or abusive marriage just because it pleases SkyDaddy is idiotic.
Ah yes - the babble, written by mysogynistic, ignorant men about mysogynistic, ignorant men for mysogynistic, ignorant men!
This is going to get me hated by some... Probably because it's going to be mysoginistic, hateful crap?
but here we go again... ...because I don't give a shit what anyone thinks of me, as long as I get to spout my woman-hating bile all day long.
God gives women and men DIFFERENT rules to follow. Assuming, as you do, that God exists at all, and that if He does exist, that He has told us what He wants, and that if He has told us what he wants, we should care.
The Bible is clear as a bell in this area. The Bible isn't clear on shit, in any area. Of course, that's what happens when you translate ancient Hebrew into English and then try to make sense of it 400 years later.
Much of this is in Genesis where it basically tells women 'obey your husbands.' Yes, it does say that. So what? Harry Potter books say to distrust the muggles. Should I do that too, because a book says so?
It also tells husband to 'love your wife.' Good. I agree with that. Not because the Bible says to, but because it's a good idea that you love the person you plan on spending the rest of your life with.
There are many other areas where the differences are clearly delineated between the sexes. However, there are NO areas that convince me we should care what the Bible says.
We are judged based on what we do or fail to do. For instance, desi mistreats women, but fails to provide a good reason for it. I judge him to be a mysoginistic bastard.
If your spouse fails Biblically it is no license for you to do likewise and vice versa. If your spouse "fails Biblically" it probably means she's thinking for herself, which apparently frightens you. I understand, the loss of a slave when you're used to having one is probably a real bitch. I wish I could muster up some sympathy.
Early in my marriage my wife considered divorcing me, yes good ole desi, her family suggested she wait things out and did not offer to take her in. This August we will celebrate our 10th year anniversary. If her family had giver her a way out years ago... who knows?
Who knows? She could be happy and living the life she dreamed of, rather than being your baby-making machine. (Apparently, he has five or six kids and is 31.)
If your spouse fails Biblically...
What if YOU fail at life in general?
Two things fail. One, Jesus never granted divorce, neither in men nor in women. Read Mark. Second, there is not such a difference as you present it. If a wife fails, the husband can fail too, so, either they both divorce or support the other one for the rest of their lives. But there are not different rules, sorry. Men don´t have a kind of assurance in case they commit a fault.
Actually, Matilde, Christ did allow divorce in the case of adultery in the Gospel of Matthew. Apparently, though, according to this loon, only men are allowed to file for divorce if the wife is unfaithful. Apparently the husband can screw as many whores as he wants on the side and the wife has to put up with it.
Gee, can't imagine why his wife would ever want to leave "good ol Desi."
The Bible says that women have to obey their husbands. It also says that insects have four legs, the earth is on pillars and cannot be moved, and snow and hail are stored in a heavenly fridge for later use. Guess which one of those things needs to be read literally and which ones need to be interpreted correctly.
Much of this is in Genesis where it basically tells women 'obey your husbands.' It also tells husband to 'love your wife.'
'Cause those dirty, sinful little woman creatures don't have hearts, right? Just evil penis-munching vaginas and a lust for money.
I recently read a newspaper article about divorce in Israel, which only the man can initiate if the marriage was performed in Israel. There are thousands of abused women desperate to escape their marriages, but they can't without their husbands' permission.
A loving God would not demand that anyone obey an abusive person.

Also, most Christians who look at an unsettling verse in the Bible are willing to find out why, and learn more from that, strengthening their faith in some cases. This fellow doesn't even care.
“ God gives women and men DIFFERENT rules to follow.”
Good for God. But he’s not writing US Law.
“The Bible is clear as a bell in this area”
Doesn’t matter a damn if the legislation doesn’t pass the LEMON law.
In the US, any citizen can file for divorce. No matter how much the MRAs whine.
Confused?
