(on speaking in church)
I have mixed feelings about this. I'm all for a woman singing in church (I do). I'm not even against a woman saying amen in church. But, when it gets to the point that she is over-bearing her husband, and not being of a meek and quiet spirit, then I think it can get excessive. Maybe I have just had a bad expierence with this topic.
My church is very exciting with lots of amens and shouting. But, there was a lady in our church that was literally shouting and "out-shouting" the men while her husband was sitting on the end of the pew looking bored. Obviously she is the spiritual leader in the home. If not, it sure appeared that way.

The heathen! I hope you all got together after the service and stoned her to death in the parking lot.
Ok, seriously, what is wrong with you people that you get all riled up over something so utterly insignificant and insurmountably stupid? Have you nothing better to do or just no knowledge of the outside world that you can't find more important things to contemplate?
Not a woman acting independently!
A witch!
Burn her!
seriously, check up on your history, that's how most "witches" were determined.
"I'm not even against a woman saying amen in church."
Now THAT is the most selfless, kind, tolerant thing I have ever heard! You passed the amen barrier. It really cheers me, to know that someone in this world cares.
"My church is very exciting with lots of amens and shouting."
That DOES sound exciting. Are there bright colors too?
"But, there was a lady in our church that was literally shouting and "out-shouting" the men"
Tell her to shout metaphorically, then. Gently but firmly.
"while her husband was sitting on the end of the pew looking bored."
Bizarre! Sounds like such an exciting environment, who would have time to get bored?

Sounds like you got some counseling to do, then. With that, and a steady prayer regimen, you can get her scrubbing floors and doing laundry, and she vill LIKE it!!!
This boggles the mind. The woman she describes is clearly the "spiritual leader" in the household, but rather than be glad that the woman is so energetically spiritual when her husband is clearly not, she complains about her , not about him. You'd think she'd be glad there was at least one enthusiastic Christian in that household and even be proud of this woman for being so "filled with the spirit" or something -- yet instead she all but condemns her. It's just impossible to please people like this.

The bible clearly states that Women must stay silent.
The men of your church must drag her out and stone her to death. Failing that, maybe an old fashioned dunking will smarten her up.
This is T-4-C, please mark that clearly as it crashes firefox. And it's really annoying. I guess Randy's a MS man.
Sounds pretty much like all the Catholic families where I grew up. The men & kids bored to death, with the women dragging them off to church.
However, I never saw anyone get excited enough to shout.
This person disgusts me. As if women don't have enough difficulty being viewed and treated as equals in the modern society...here we have one who is complicit in her own oppression and the oppression of her sisters.
Just because YOU are afraid to grow up, think for yourself, and act like an adult doesn't mean other women have to remain perpetual juveniles, too. Get back in the kitchen! And take off those shoes!!
"her husband was sitting on the end of the pew looking bored."
He was probably the only rational person at your church service, you ignorant, nosy old busy-body fussbudget.
(I was going to call her a batshit insane fucknugget, but I just couldn't bring myself to use that sort of profanity.)
Hm. Juicy gossip there. Do you think, BG, that he's plooking her enough? Perhaps it's her sexual frustration shouting. You should take it upon yourself to find out. Maybe you'll cop a little action yourself.
In other words, get fucked.
So, if a woman is more cheerful, more assertive or more simply has more personality than a man, is it bad?, now marriage and couple is a sadomasochistic relationship or what?. And define overbearing, because what you have described is not and I don't have to "pity" that "poor" man.
FSTDTNN Breaking News
Regular FSTDT contributor Doctor Fishcake requred urgent medical attention today for injuries received in a particularly severe headdesk. Mr Fishcake, who required 30 stitches, told reporters: "I'm quite an experienced headdesker, and sure you hear about injuries all the time but you never think it will happen to you. I must have just got a little too worked up and carried away."
So you were paying more attention to this woman than you were to, gosh, I don't know, the fucking priest? Maybe you should concentrate a teeny bit more on the religious areas of Christianity, and put less priority on the ettiquette lessons. It was Paul who made that fun little quip about silent women, though you fundies hate to hear it, within Christianity:
Jesus > Paul.
And Illuminatalie, you made me laugh. I thought you should know.
I have no time for this exhibitionism. Church is for quiet comtemplation; for linking one's soul with whatever there may be beyond this mortal coil - assuming one has a soul. If not, then it's the ideal place for peace and quiet.
I can do without all this Hallelujahin, Priase the Lawd-ing, and Amen-ing. It's not necessary to show how holy you are. If there is a god then he/she/it ought to know already. All this hullaballoo is doing is showing, in the most Pharasaical way, how 'good', how much better the bawlers are - at making noise. It has nothing to do with religion. It's irreverent and it's distracting.
Should be banned by Divine Law!
To my dear Illuminatalie, Anonymous Asshole, Booley, Doctor Fishcake:
Thank you So much for the laughs, this thread has got to be one of the fucking funniest i've read on FSTDTs.
All of you--- FTW.
I find that whole website genuinely quite depressing.
It's an entire website full of brainwashed teenagers like this, and...I just can't express how monumentally sad that makes me feel.
Teens4christ is ':(' multiplied by ';_;' to the 'D:'th power.
I'm not clear on what the problem is. If one were to look at the earliest letters of Paul, those written in their original Greek and not modern day English, there were actually women leaders of the church. Paul even gives Biblical "shout outs" to women and acknowledges them before men. Unfortunately at the time of the writing of the Geneva Bible, Bishop's Bible and King James Bible (and to a degree, Erasmus' Bible), some of the women's names were modified to be men's names, women were associated with husbands and were put in second place and Paul's tone towards women was modified to be someone demeaning.
The whole piece about women covering their heads and being quiet in church was a direct letter to a single congregation and not to all Christian women. Unfortunately many Fundies take all the Pauline letters (or those attributed to him) way out of context. The letters were to specific congregations or people and while one can make reference to them , if you take them out of the context of who there were actually meant for, you lose the value of their reading and distort what was actually meant.
Exciting church? Shouting? I thought church was for quiet contemplation and reverence.
How do you over-bear your husband? Are you carrying a heavier load than he managed, or what? Bear more children than he did?
Meek and quiet spirit sounds like a boring person.
Maybe he's the spiritual leader at home, and she gets an outlet in church? Where's the spirituality in shouting, btw?
How dare YOU speak up? A mere girl, usurping the authority of both men and women!
Children should be seen, not heard, my dear.
When You consider "exiting" to be people Amening and oh Lordying at vthe top of their voice you can't blame some women for getting loud, now can you,
And you also cannot blame people for looking bored because they are.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
