“Atheist? Where do your rights come from?”
The social contract.
“God is the head of this nation and I think this is tough for some atheist and secularist to grasp.”
I grasp the concept fine. It’s just bullshit. God isn’t even a citizen of this country, much less head of the nation.
“We get our God given rights from our Creator and the government is set up as a secondary appendage to protect those God given rights but the government gets it's power from the people and not the other way around.”
Nothing in the government appeals to any god as the source of rights.
The Declaration mentions ‘their creator’ which is deism, not Christain, but that’s not actually part of the government. Just a bit letter-of-intent to George.
“I think this is why you see this split.”
No, sweetie, your split is fictional.
“Many liberals, atheist and secularist don't believe in God so are rights come from the state. This means the government is almighty and they push for a nanny state.”
No, the government is not almighty, the Bill of Rights actually limits governmental powers. And any time we try to limit the greed of capitalism, conservatives shout ‘NANNY STATE!’ it’s tiring.
“Most Conservatives have a belief in God and they want less government and more individual control because they believe our individual rights come from our Creator and government is there to protect our rights.”
You SAY that, but then you want government in complete control of textbooks, healthcare, the doctor/patient relationship, available drugs, available treatments, and available diagnoses.
“The question is if your rights do not come from a Creator then where do your rights as an individual come from?”
Society. Some are spelled out by the government, some are not.
“If there's no God, then you have no rights except those that other men want to give you.”
If there IS a god, we still only have the rights other men want to give to us. Never heard of God coming down to stop an abortion and say ‘No, the baby has a right to live’ or stop an adoption by a single parent and say ‘No, the child has a right to a mother AND a father.’
In all cases, even if you appeal to God, it’s dependent on what men TELL us god wants us to have.
