Here’s my last word for the teenager: Nobody on the abstinence side of the sex spectrum is trying to keep you from having fun. We’re just trying to keep you alive so that when you meet the right person and get married you can have a healthy sex life with no regrets, diseases, infertility or untimely death, that’s all. And yes, it’s come down to that. The sexual revolution is over, and we all lost. In this, your day, my young friend, there is a very real pay day for buying the BS our sex-obsessed culture is selling you. This is the hand you’ve been dealt. Be afraid.

Yeah, sometimes you want to grab a bite :P
Ignorance should be made a cardinal sin. (blatant display of smilies, humour and mentioning Poe) Quotes like this make me glad to be dutch :)
Now sex kills?, I thought it did in the figurative sense, go figure. And by the way, since when infertility is connected with sex out of marriage?, how can it "ultimately" kill you?. And finally, if they don't feel guilty which "regrets" are you talking about?
Here’s my last word for the teenager
Thank you, then you will keep your mouth shut in the future, right?
Oh it's good to be a god-hating, evolution-believing, science-loving hedonist! I don't live in denial, ignore reason, or fear pleasure.
Yeah, 'cause abstinence-only education has so many documented success stories. Given when teen childbirth peaked in the United States (hint: it was 1957), I'd say that lots of people won the sexual revolution.
Unless by BS you mean Blessed Sex, I'd have to say you're wrong. If you want them to practice celibacy, then perhaps you should start handing out masturbatory aids. It'd likely do a lot more than teaching strict abstinence (which does nothing).
Not really fundie. Only the last part is really questionable.
With all the STDs and psycho ex's waiting to be out there, you should definately invest some time into finding an appropriate person to bonk.
Sex leads to infertility? That's a new one. I always thought that (unprotected) sex caused babies.
I bet this Doug doesn't know that the highest teen-pregnancy rates are in areas that use abstinence-only education. And that the number of teen pregnancies in those areas rose drastically AFTER abstinence-only was instituted.
The more you know...
Dougie has some serious angst here. I guess he never learned about the things responsible people do to protect themselves and their partners.
Be afwaid. Be vewy vewy afwaid, LOSER.
Yes. Be afraid. Be VERY afraid!
Because we all know that every person regrets having sex outside of marriage. That's why they do it. It makes perfect sense.
Is the [/sarcasm] tag even necessary?
We’re just trying to keep you alive so that when you meet the right person and get married you can have a healthy sex life with no regrets, diseases, infertility or untimely death, that’s all.
So, what you're saying is that all married people are happy, disease-free, fertile and live until a ripe old age and die quietly in their sleep with their family surrounding them?
And, by that logic, the only people who suffer untimely deaths, disease and infertility are unmarried people who don't practice abstinance?
Huh.

so what you're arguing is that sex isn't fun? Um.... Um.... Er... NO. Unless you're not giving consent or something, I think it's probably fun.
My advice: Be honest. We know more than you can imagine.
The more I hear stuff like this the more it reminds me of typical fundamentalist mindsets. Sometimes their goal is not really all that bad, decreasing teenage pregnancy is a good thing, decreasing the spread of STDs is a good thing. Lets contrast this to the current war in Iraq. Bringing peace and democracy to Iraq is obviously a good thing.
Both the Iraq war and abstinence only education have positive goals. It seems that in the fundamentalist mindset it doesn't matter whether or not your goal is feasible or whether or not your plan for achieving that goal actually works. Case in point, Iraq. It keeps getting worse and worse, the solution... more of the same or the "Surge." Teen pregnancy is still around? Do more abstinence only education despite the fact that it's proven to not work while alternatives have been shown to work.
They'll keep plugging away with the same goals and the same plans no matter how many times they fail.
Feel free to point out any problems you see, I'm just thinking out loud here.
"We’re just trying to keep you alive "
That's why you're opposed to stem cells, cancer vaccines and information about STDs - to keep us alive. This is why plagues stopped when science took over.
We’re just trying to keep you alive so that when you meet the right person and get married you can have a healthy sex life with no regrets, diseases, infertility or untimely death, that’s all.
By lying and scaring people into not having sex. Look, I'll happily admit that teenagers having sex isn't something I find all that good. But people are going to do it, and it's best they know exactly how to prevent diseases and pregnancy so that they can go on to live happy, healthy lives. (Although, honestly, if I had a teenager, I wouldn't really want them having sex until they were at least 17, and in a fairly stable relationship).
It amazes me that there are still people out there who believe and preach teenage abstinence! While I agree, our culture is oversaturated with sex, I come to a different conclusion! Educate children about sexual behavior, educate them about contraceptives and protection from STDs. Just a thought ...
"there is a very real pay day for buying the BS our sex-obsessed culture is selling you."
Oh yes. But it isn't what you think it is. I'd go into the subject of women's (and men's as well, though to a lesser extent) self-image. But then, you're probably not interested in the subject.
Because premarital sex kills most of those who indulge in it.
Riiiight.
Hey, most people who have had premarital sex are dead today! The rest will inevitably die too!
Then again, the same can be said of those who breathe air.
"Nobody on the abstinence side of the sex spectrum is trying to keep you from having fun. We’re just trying to keep you alive so that when you meet the right person and get married"
Unless you are gay. Since these same people have worked so very hard to make sure that gay people can't marry the one they love.
The only thing this guy is right about is HPV. Other than that, abstinence education doesn't work(simply because once you break your vow of abstinence and you don't know how to have safe sex, you are pretty much screwed).
The STD numbers do scare me a little though.

If this uptight guy only knew that there exist baby jesus butt plugs.
This little cherub, you mean?

Don't forget to mention his big brother , or his mom . (links definitely NSFW)
once you break your vow of abstinence and you don't know how to have safe sex, you are pretty much screwed
If you're not screwed then you've done something wrong...
"Be afraid,sex-obsessed culture will burn to the ground. Our lies will bloat out the sun."
...
"Then we will shag in the shade"
On a more serious note, this guy almost made a good point until he started with the "or you will diezorz!!1!"-part.
So sex kills teens? That's a new one for me.
I'll admit, my parents had premarital sex. For quite a while before they were married. That's the only reason they got married, acctually -- I was the result of the premarital sex, and they decided to finally save the money they kept earning and intending to use for marriage. Both my parents are healthy, happy, pefectly capeable of conceiving children. I am living proof that premarital sex certainly doesn't do anywhere near as much harm as fundies make it out to. Because without it, I wouldn't be alive.
trying to keep a peson ignorant of the facts with evidence to support them IS trying to stop them having sex.
Horny teens will have sex, its a law of nature.
The abstinance only position now sounds like the old, "That girl will give you the clap, or syphilus, look at all the guys she has been with", that was around 50 years ago.
A majority of teenagers have sex, and a majority of teenagers are alive long enough to find someone to love and share their lives with. A majority of the ones who have had sex-ed lessions, that is, the ones who know how to protect themselves and their partners from STDs and unwanted pregnancies.
What if you wait until your weeding day and then find that you are not compatible in bed? Talk about regrets...
The sexual revolution is still on-going, it will continue until everyone are in control of their own sexuality.
Nobody is as sex-obsessed as puritan fundies.
*Rubbing Temples*
For the eighteen Million BILLIONTH time. We are NOT handing kids condoms, slapping them on their backs and telling them to go have fun. By and large we would far...FAR prefer teens to abstain from sex. However, this is where we diverge. You believe...for some reason, that shouting fire and brimstone will make them not do it. We believe that saying "Just don't do it" is foolish and short sighted, so we opt to arm them with proper knowledge...how to identify STDs, how to protect themselves it...yes IF...they have sex, how to avoid unplanned pregnancies. You say you want to keep them safe, personally, it seems more like you want to keep them ignorant so you can continue to use the STD Boogyman as a scare tactic.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
