On Wednesday, Religious Right broadcaster Janet Mefferd didn’t hold back in expressing her outrage over the Supreme Court’s decision to vacate the appeal of the Prop 8 case over standing, calling the court’s ruling “completely insane.”
“If you think this is just an attack on marriage, it isn’t; it’s an attack on your liberty, an attack on the rule of law and it’s an attack on every person in California who went to the polls and legally voted to change the constitution of the state of California,” Mefferd said, “and the Supreme Court basically spat on them today.” Mefferd had a dim view of California: “Look who you have running your state, all these people have done in the California legislature is it’s gay law here and gay law there and gay role models and ban gay reparative therapy for minors—it’s totalitarian.”

Yeah, because not allowing a certain group of people to marry and forcing children to endure mental abuse with a startling suicide rate is what freedom is *really* about!

If civil rights were up for popular vote, you, as a woman, still wouldn't have the right to vote, sign a contract, own property, or sit on a jury, among other things

...but then, the public are intelligent to know what your agenda really is. Which is precisely why the law - via the US Constitution - is doing what it exists for: annihilating the unjustifiable 'agendas' of those who think they have the right to tell people what to do, when they don't .
PROTIP: As long as the government don't tell people who/how to worship, religious fundies don't have the fucking right to tell the government what to do. The US Constitution says so.
Religion - certainly it's clergy/preachers & believers who think they have the right to (via insinuating itself into the political system) think they have the right to tell people what to do - is now being told what to do. By the people, via legislation . Forced Political Correctness. Good.

An attack on the rule of law would be an attack on the Constitution, not granting people equality before the law, arguing that something else is superior to the law, refusing to accept the decisions of the supreme court in the land...Who would be doing that, I wonder?

You don't vote on rights. Historically, courts have stepped in to ensure that rights are protected, even when the people didn't support it. This is just another instance of that.
In response to Janet whining about the bans on reparative therapy. Gee, maybe its because even the supposed experts and purveyors of reparative therapy have admitted to wrong doing, that the therapies don't work, and ultimately cause harm; then they apologized to the TAIGA community and shut down the reparative camps.
Don't you think that might just be a factor in banning reparative therapy Janet?
