[old post, I know, but it was too lame to pass up]
Imagine, for example, if a young girl who was a member of the church got pregnant. She's flaunting her sin around town for all to see. This looks very bad on the church. She should be disciplined in order for her to want to make things right with the church, and realize how important the church really is in her life.

FIXED
I don't think the purpose of visible pregnancy is to flaunt sin.
I mean, otherwise, why do even married women grow "large with child"?
Right, because the public image of the church is FAR more important than, you know, showing compassion or helping those in need.
Seriously. This kind of thing is precisely why people leave churches.
I'll bet the farm this misogynistic creep thinks he's pro-life, too.
Also, why do I think this poster's idea of "discipline" would either drive her away for good and/or stress her out so bad it induces a miscarriage?
sooo...if she get's pregnant that looks bad, so she sould be punished. but if she makes sure no one finds out, she's in the clear.
I thought you people were supposed to be against abortion.
Which is EXACTLY what they did in the 50's! Teenage girls got pregnant, they were hidden away from society until the baby is born, during which the babe is usually torn away from the mother and given up for adoption without the girl having any say in the matter.
Yes, can you been that Christian love!
Well most likely, you've all told her that she can't use any method of birth control, and that she can't get an abortion, so I don't see how you expect her to stop flaunting her "sin" and make right with the church.
Can you feel that Christian "Love" yet?
Read what your own holy man did! He ate with sinners, touched them and talked to them. Not once did he "discipline" them.
Disciplined.... with a coat hanger? With a swift kick to the womb? With a shove down a flight of stairs?
Also, weren't you (meaning, religious fundies in general) the ones that were up-in-arms when Obama suggested an unwanted pregnancy was a "punishment" for a young girl? because all babies are miiiiirrraacclllessss!
So, it's not the baby that's the punishment, it's what the church is gonna do to her?
I laughed when I read this. No, seriously. It's as if fundies think girls self-impregnate, like flowers, or there's a bunch of disembodied penises flying around, looking for a choice crotch to delve into. Of course, dear fundie, SHE'S the bad person. The guy who knocked her up will suffer no consequence, since the poor little darling probably couldn't restrain himself after the little harlot inflamed his unchained male passion.
Barf. You sexist shit.
Surely if anyone is walking around aren't they flaunting their sin for all to see?
I thought we were all sinners for being born, original sin and all that.
Damn teenagers flaunting their sin around town for all to see!
How dare she go around, blatantly being pregnant like that!
"She should be disciplined in order for her to want to make things right with the church"
A good old fashioned stoning then? Or just a Falcon Punch?
Disciplined how, exactly? I'd be willing to bet your idea of discipline is to go all OT on her; take her out behind the church and flog her.
No wait...stoning. You demented bastards love a good stoning for Yahweh. That'll teach her to give in to her natural desires, won't it?
She should be disciplined in order for her to want to make things right with the church, and realize how important the church really is in her life.
Do you mean 'she and her boyfriend'?
"Imagine, for example, if a young girl who was a member of the church got pregnant. ..."
Then I'd expect to see the pastor and/or youth minister sweating on the Maury show awaiting the results of the paternity test. "Reverend Jim Bob Billy Tom, you ARE the father."
She's flaunting her sin around town for all to see.
Yeah, flaunting! . Walking around, big ol' belly jes' a-hangin' out there in front of God an' everbuddy...dang, girl, hide yore shame.
She should be disciplined in order for her to want to make things right with the church, and realize how important the church really is in her life.
Like Jesus said, "let he that is without sin".
Dark_Lord_Prime-Wanna know how to get a church nun pregnant?
Dress her up as an alter boy.
I think I know how you flaunt your sin of pregnancy! I sometimes wore belly shirts and drew stuff on my belly (flowers, a sun, or had my oder kids draw on me, they loved it) - this could be concidered flaunting I guess
Though, I doubt that's what the pregnant teen church members are doing? though, it should be easy to not flaunt your belly, since all good chrisitan ladies wear burkas!
Garfield, that's adorable! :-)
I'm surprised that nobody has yet brought up how much fun it might be to prop his eyelids open and make him watch "Juno."
@Garfield
Shame on you! Such garments are what the evil Muslims oppress those poor women into wearing. They simply expect a good, godly woman make sure she shows next to no skin, or else she be sto-erm...shunned as the harlot that she is.
And yet, not one word of universal condemnation - leading to a backlash, nay, a witchhunt of McCarthy-esque proportions - of the likes of Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart, Tony Alamo, Kent Hovind, and least of all, Ted Faggard:

Fundie doublethink at it's finest. Also it's hypocrisy.
The problem is that PREGNANCY is evident, is a physical reality, so no point in hiding. And the problem, the way you describe it, is the Church, not the girl. Either the girl commited a sin, or the church colaborated. You can't have it both ways.
Is that "discipline" going to make her want to stay in that church? Maybe she will just go down the street, where the Presbyterians will make sure she gets good prenatal care, or the Methodists will help her find the father and get him to pay child support, or the Episcopalians, who will direct her to nursery schools and night classes so she can complete her education.
Now tell me what your church has to offer somebody who needs help, not discipline.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
