...oh, wait. Considering that whole "body of Christ" communion deal, this actually does make some sort of sense. Not a *nice* sort of sense, but at least they're consistent.
This doesn't really belong here. The original quote is way out of context, they're talking about prolonged sieges where there is no food left in the city. /it's a description of something being "really bad."
It's not really applicable to discussions of mercy or love, it's just a prurient look at a catastrophe.

True, but the overriding message of the atheist in question is still the same; basically, a 'loving God' would not turn a blind eye to suffering of such a great extent as people being forced into cannibalism because they did not kiss his ass enough.
